Hot water electric switch

First time out for season and electric switch on hot water heater won’t turn to on position. It will move a bit but not connect. Looking on internet it looks like a simple thing to fix myself but not the greatest at electricity. When you remove it it looks like it has two prongs. Do they just plug in or is wiring needed. Also can I get a replacement at Lowe’s or Home Depot or do I need to go to a camping world or similar. Thanks for any advice.

P.s. runs on gas okay so we’re getting along.

Very easy to change and the wire ends have female connections that simply slide onto replacement switch

It’s a SPST ....single pole single throw switch and any auto parts store will have what you need... Lowe’s or HD might also have.

Is there a trick to getting it out? I tried prying with small screwdriver and it didn’t want to just pop out. Afraid of making it worse?

Don't be afraid, it does pop out.

Might try radio shack for new switch. They usually come out by prying in the middle of the narrow ends.

Don't think there are any Radio Shack stores left. I'd try an auto parts store or an RV parts counter.

Thanks Dad.
