G614's

Trying to replace my Marathons with Goodyear 6614's (LT235/85R16). However, our tire dealership told me they just learned that Goodyear was discontinuing them, but they were still available at some warehouses. Apparently they were rumored to be discontinued as far back as 2012, however; that was never verified. Anyone know anything about this?

If they were no longer being made, Goodyear would not show them on their web site. http://www.goodyearrvtires.com/tire-selector.aspx

Perhaps this tire store has to do some work to get the G614's and at the same time they have a warehouse full of cheap tires that will fit your rims. It's not uncommon for some unscrupulous sales people to direct you toward what's easiest for them.

I would be shocked if G614's were not being produced anymore. I guess the only sure way to find out would be a call to Goodyear.

I'd call Goodyear and ask and then report the dealer.

I personally checked directly with Goodyear today both by phone and by email contact, and both sources with Goodyear verified they have not discontinued the G614's, nor do they have any plans of discontinuing them. Alas, it was a individual at a Goodyear warehouse, that just yesterday, apparently leaped to some conclusion that Goodyear had discontinued the tire for whatever reason. He was very authoritative, according to my tire dealer. After my pursuance and verification with Goodyear today, I called the dealer again and told him that he was misinformed, after which he called the same warehouse and talked to a different individual. The second individual from the warehouse confirmed that not only were they not discontinued, but they happened to have 6 in stock. FYI, Goodyear may also give me some credit toward the Marathon's even though they're only a year old, but I also pointed out that there's a prominent bulge on each sidewall. Interesting!!

Mine came with those bulges at no extra charge, and while the dealer said that was normal, Goodyear gave me decent credit against the 614's.

Bulges in the sidewall helped soften the blow for my G614's too. Hard to believe that GY would discontinue a tire that's a proven winner like the G614. They sure are popular among RVer's.

My experience with G614s is excellent. Pressure stays constant, no noticeable wear, very pleased.

Made an appointment today to take my camper to Goodyear on Saturday to change my Marathons to G 614s. I tried to get credit for the Marathons, but they are 2010s and they said they couldn't give me any credit because of their age.

You just need to make sure your wheels are able to handle the new tires. The wheels need to be able to handle 110 psi, and will have a weight capacity of 3750 lbs.

Thanks Bob,
I got under the camper and checked the wheels and it shows it will be able to handle the new tire.

The Goodyear tech who installed my G-614's told me they are the smaller version of their Semi-truck trailer tires and are very tough and reliable. Also told me that he installs a lot of them on campers and they are in huge demand.

Based on their cost, I sure hope they'll be reliable. We had two tires fail on a 315RL Mountaineer TT I had a few years ago. We had tire pressure monitors on the tires and both tires had a catrosphic failure. Marathons of course. It was on the same trip, one on the way up on vacation and the other on the way home. I'm guessing the first failed tire probably damaged the other tire and it finally blew on our way home on vacation. Both on the same side of the trailer.

Where do you find the capacity of an aluminum rim that came on the 2010 mountaineer 295rkd

Just got off the phone with keystone. The rims that came with the Mountaineer will not handle the 110 psi. it should be stamped on the inside or rear of the rims.

You have to look at the inside of rim, it's labeled within one of the spokes. So take a flash light with you. You'll also fine the rim size and load rating.

Check the rims yourself. Keystone isn't always right about these kind of things.

Our G614s that came OEM on our 2013 3402 Big Sky after about 8k show no measurable wear.

Tom's right. Check for yourself. 2010 was the model year they changed to 110# rims. Early models didn't have them, some later models did. Ours came with the stronger rims.
