3400RL Slideout wiring harness

The driver side rear slideout (desk&TV in the 2006 3400RL) has a plastic band under the slide that springs in and out ( with several cables strung through the plastic band)to allow proper extension and restraction of the power cables. That band recently snapped clean off at the attachment point to the outside side of the slide. Local dealer has indicated that they have seen this before, but will not state how many times.

Has anyone else seen this problem? If so,is there a homebrew method of fixing it that has worked. It will take me 3 weeks to get it fixed by the dealer and I need the trailer sooner than that. No idea of what it will cost, but you know it won't be cheap.

Do a search on this, can be repaired with a large door hinge.

Check the other's while you are there...I've got two 'door' hinges on mine...so far. After I put them on, I painted them black so they match.

I think in one of the threads on this subject one of the responders said they were using baler belts for their repair as soon as they got back home or where ever they were heading. The baler belts are made of rubber, heavy threads of somekind and also metal cables running through them-- at least the ones we use on our balers on the farm anyway- so there would be quite a bit of flexibility and strength along with it! Think I'll find some old ones and cut a few sections off to keep in the Monte-- just in case!!

A very common problem. On our late 2006 3400RL our dealer repaired three of our slide plastic cable carriers using rectangular rubber belting sections, bolting one end of the rubber section to the slide frame and the other end to the plastic carrier. Keeping the length of the plastic carrier about the same length as it was to begin with. IMHO, the original plastic carriers are too short putting too much stress on the plastic carrier where it bends right where it attaches to the slide frame. Don't know why Montana or Lippert haven't replaced all of them. IMHO, it is a manufacturers design defect. These fixes have held up over 2 years. It's one of those Montana problems that Montana Dealers have never seen before but seem to know exactly how to fix! :-) Check your other slide carriers too. These other carriers will probably exhibit the same problem very soon if they are not cracked already.
PS: Hinges proably accomplish the same repair just as well.

We had the same thing happen on the slide to our 289rl. It is a lot more durable now.

I did the door hinge thing to all 3 of my slides. Easy fix you may have to drill a couple of holes in the plastic band.

My ole memory, ain't what it used to be, but seems to me that at the 2007 Fall Rally, young Mr. Lippert made a tour of the campers with this specific difficulty in mind, and came outta there mumbling something about, not installed the way designed. SIGHHHH

Course, that is my old memory.
