Basement Storage

On our first few trips last summer the one thing that used to make me nuts was trying to come up with an efficient way to orginize the basement area. With the dish, lawn chairs, grill, water hose, jack blocks etc. I never felt I had any type of organization that was effective. I'm working on some of modifications this winter getting it set for our first trip out I'm looking for any storage ideas.
Thanks...

We use tubs from Wally World to store our water hoses in. The tubs have wheels on them so they slide out easily and open up half way on both sides. The tubs are about 16 inches tall, so I can stack one on top of the other. We have a taller tub that we keep lights, propane bottles for the grill etc in. Brooms and fishing poles go behind the plumbing pipes. Chairs stack on top of the two tubs, jack blocks are under the grey/black water tank handles.

Mike and Clare-- I've put racks and hooks on the walls of the basement to store some of the stuff. As mentioned, plastic tubs for the hoses, cords and numerous other items. The grill, table, chairs and larger stuff just get put in as well as possible. I also took the wire shelving and put it across the step and created about 8" more space to store things below on the step. I didn't check to see what model you have but my basement on my 2980 has a step on each side. I got the idea from the Improvement section.
Also if you go into the Search mode above and type in Basement improvements you'll get about four responses and if you go int the Additions and Improvements area of the thread and go back into the archives, you'll find even more.

Those plastic storage tubs are the neatest of inventions!!!!
Tools in one.
Hoses in another
Other supplies in other containers.
Heck, you can even pack clothing for the different seasons.

After over two years of full timing, I have decided the best approach is confusion. With being memory challenged, I can't remember how I organized it in the first place.

I forgot to post that we have a garage and a basement. Got tired of trying to understand which compartment I am talking about, so the front compartment is the basement and the space under the bathroom sink is the garage. He stores the grill, tools, electrical cords lights, chocks for between the wheels etc in the Basement.

I have been lucky to have huge basement compartments. And for many years they were completely full of (STUFF) that in some cases weren't used. So we simplified and make sure we used what ever we carried along or we removed it. Now our basement is about half full, and its a huge basement. We carry two bike's with only the front tires removed, water hoses and sewer equipment. Satellite dish is in the front compartment (generator area). You would be astonished at how much STUFF your hauling around that you don't use.

I use milk crates (2 each)to store hoses and other items. I use a (1 ea) 5 gallon bucket to store sewer connection equipment. I also carry a Air compressor to air the G-614's up. We were full timing after we decided to get rid of the extra STUFF. Weight was the problem, and when you weight 25,600, Chevy 3500 1 ton and Cambridge 358 at the time after a 18,000 mile trip? We are still giving away STUFF that we hauled around just because we though we needed it. Another thing we do is not buy grocery's until we get to were we are going, just enough to eat on until we are at the RV park which we will be staying at. We or I made the mistake of seeing other RVer's with neat things I thought I needed, which I didn't, now before I buy I make sure it will be used on a regular basics while traveling. We aren't full timing now but we are some timing. GBY...

I like using milk crates and laundry baskets over totes because I can see whats in them without pulling them out to see whats inside. They also have slides you can install in the basement.

Mike,
If you want to get fancy and are good w/tools, contact sailer and ask for pics of his basement. Saw it at the Rally "Show and Tell." Very neat and organized!

Like kdeiss, we store the hoses in with the propane tanks...drinking on the street side (closer to the outlet), wash down on the curb side. Also, all of our plastic storage containers are clear so we can see through them.

Peg board works great and NO the stuff does not fall off when traveling.
I also have a slide tray. No more pulling stuff out to get to the stuff in the middle.

AirForce75 i need your e-mail address to send you the 10 or 11 pictures but i use all 1/2 or 5/8 cd plywood and they are hung from the joist above by 6" long 1" angle iron with 1/4 threaded rod wth nuts and washers top and bottom of all shelves and everthing gets 3 coats paint enamel latex after it has all been fit in . also the 16" space next to the back or furnance area has to be removabl;e for repairs. also keep all shelves back about 6" from door so you can get the stuff in as the door is not 100% of the basement size. alse i use some slide outs .. sailer

I've seen Sailer's pictures and they go a long way in showing how one can maximize basement storage space!

Sailer.. Thanks again for the pictures of your improvements in the basement. Give you a lot more storage room.. not everything is stacked on top of each other. Unlike mine...
