Has anyone traveled the entire California coast?

Been there - done that!! - the coast highways are great but some areas in N California are pretty hairy when towing. Also a big tip - if you are going to drive the coast highways it is much better to go from North to South as 95% of the pull outs - view stops etc are on the coast side. Driving from the South you cannot cross the highway towing a 5er to get into these spots - someone earlier had a good suggestion, find places to stay for a few days and explore by truck - the coastal highways once you get into Oregon and Washington are better than N Cal but be aware that "coastal highways" are not always actually on the coast!! - have a great trip.

There is a great RV park in Bodega Bay my husband and I just stayed at. They had full hookups on the water and when we sat in our recliners and looked out the window, it looked like we were sitting on the water. The bay was right there. Clean park, all gravel, and good base to look around the area. The name of the park is Porto Bodega and they have a web site you can google. We stayed in site 40 and have reservations for end of June in spot 17. Not the same view we had in 40, but we are taking my sister and kids with us and this spot is close to the beach part. Definately avoid the SF bay area and Marin. We take 80 to the 37 to 101 then cut through and over to he coast.

ooppss...we staying in spot 37, not 40, but 40 and 41 are als full hookup. I think we paid about 47.00 with tax. Bring your bikes and explore the marina and road around the bay.

Well, we left San Diego, Admiral Baker RV Park on the 10th. Left Seal Beach, Seebreeze RV park today, and now we are at Vandenberg AFB for at least two nights, and maybe 4. Then it is on to Monterey, Naval Post Graduate School for 4 nights(forgot the park name, and then to Peteluma the Coast Guard station until at least the 28th. Don't know where we will be for the weekend or where after that. Haven't figured it out yet.

All of it was done with TomTom GPS taking me up US 101, with a small side trip on the 110 in LA. Once past LA it was a fairly relaxing drive. The PCH (Ca-1) was in view a few times and we observed where it meandered back and forth underneath the 101. So it is not all coastal. I'll post more as I know it. Going to follow the 101 for as far as it goes.

I spoke today with three other camp members. They all advised against taking PCH (CA-1). I'm going to use 101 and travel PCH in the TOAD only.

Today, we went 15 miles one way on Vandenberg AFB out to the Coast. I am glad that I was not in the SOB. If PCH is anywhere near that it would be scary.
