Manufacturer has a detailed manual on line that takes you step by step thru repairs. Don't remember if it provides guidance on getting the slide open or not. Google search Accuslide installation manual.

A 30 buck cable kit on Amazon along with the on-line BAL Accu Slide manual plus a few minutes watching their on-line video. You can carefully orient and use two small cable clamps (Home Depot) if you don't want to buy the 30 buck crimp tool.

If you can get decent access to your slide without opening it completely, you can pull the new cable around the pulleys with the Chinese finger trap gadget that BAL supplies in the kit.

Just an FYI the Montana’s with a cable slide are prone to the same issue as the High County.
Overfilled gear box leaking onto roof membrane and causing membrane to bubble.
Ours is in for repair now.

Older montana that used the cable system in the bedroom (mine-2013) are not subject to the crappy gearboxes that are used in the newer trailers unless one were to replace an older gearbox assembly with the newer crap. I will not do that if I ever have an issue...which I doubt will occur. For those suffering from this issue, I feel for you.

Yes ours is an early 2018 , it seems 2017- 2018 might have been the time frame for this issue.
They said at the National Rally there’s a new/ improved gear box.

Until they do a recall on the gearboxes so all affected are fixed I have 0, zero, nada faith in Norco and their gear boxes. Too many uninformed folks out there with damaged roofs that do not find out until warranty runs out and then the "fix" is not covered.

I've seen several threads on the BAL slide cables fraying. Does anyone know why these cables fray? Would like to know what to watch for and/or what preventative maintenance can keep them in good condition.

BAL slide cable change

I just had my frayed cable slide changed. It is an easy process. Open slide half way, cut frayed cable and use the new cable supplied by BAL $26 at Amazon. It has a sleeve that will help pull the new cable through using the cut old cable. You can access the old cable and mechanism from on top of the room slide. Difficult part was removing all the frayed and cut portions of the old cable. When done tighten all cables leaving a little bit of slack for the mechanism to get a start before applying pressure to the system.

VERY IMPORTANT: once done look at the position of the anchoring attachment to the slide. As you move the slide in it will be well below (in my case) horizontal entry point of the RV frame. This is why they fray. Check all 8 cables. Move the anchoring post to be exactly horizontal so you will not have the problem. Crimper and cable cutter needed.

Had this happen couple weeks ago. It's in the shop now for an axel problem so I'm having them do the cable also. Was glad it still closed so I could move the rig. Came back north for the holidays and hoping all is fixed when we return south.

So I'm wondering, if you can easily replace a cable just by pulling a new one through with the old one, just what do the cables do? It seems it must not actually be pulling the slide. My frayed cable broke when I tried to close the slide and the slide continued to close.

There are 4 cable per slide. Two work to close, two to open. If you climb up on a step stool, you will see two bars with adjusting nuts. They are labeled in and out. BAL has an installation manual that show how each camle is actually run - to involved to describe, but an interesting look at. You need to scroll down a bit in this page then open the .pdf: https://norcoind.com/bal/downloads/index.shtml

Thanks for the link Dave. I did also find some info online along with a good video from Keystone that included a demo model that I guess they use at RV shows. Looks like my slide managed to close because only one of the four cables broke.

There are four cables that pull all 4 corners of the slide room to open and 4 cables that pull the room to close. When yo lose one you still have 3 working in the direction you are wanting the room to move. But do not bet on it long term. Just get a new one. I carry a spare in my RV.
