High Winds & Service

It's quite windy here in Southern California today. There are gusts up to 80mph. When we left the rig for work this morning it was quite calm and we had our awning out with the lights strung on it. Before I went to lunch Shari called and said I should check on the awning and bring it in while I was out. When I pulled up to our site, the awning was already rolled up and locked in place, the lights were carefully coiled up. I went by the office and the manager told me that he'd had his crew go around the park (80 sites) and put up the awnings on all the rigs where no one was home.

This is Golden Shore RV Resort in Long Beach, CA. It's a relatively small park, right on the bay and close to all the attractions in Long Beach: Queen Mary, Convention Center, The Pike, Shoreline Village, etc. It is run very professionally. We're going to be here until the end of March when we retire and will miss it when we leave. I would highly recommend this park to anyone wishing to stay in the Los Angeles area.

That's a good story, Bill. I will put that park on my list. Nice to see people out there looking after other people.

Brad,

I really like your new Big Sky (your picture), I haven't seen that one before.
Did you cancel that 3400 Montana in time.

Golden Shores was our very FIRST overnight when we started our full time journey 3 1/2 years ago. It was a class act then, and appears to have maintained that quality. It is a bit $$, but, fortunately, you sometimes get what you pay for in the RV world. Nice to hear your story..

Happy New Year!!

Yep J&D, I made it just in time. This one only cost me another $10K over the 3400.

Actually it's a FEMA trailer I pictured while in New Orleans two weeks ago.

patodonn,
Yes, their regular nightly rates can be as much as $59, but the monthly rate for the winter is only $650 plus electricity. The rate doubles for the summer months. Of course, the park in Prescott AZ we stay in is more like $450 per month, but it's not on prime harbor property in the middle of a big city. We were really lucky to get a monthly spot there since it's only a 10 minute drive to work.

Some REALLY good eateries around your location, esp on Pine Ave. There is a little micro brewery on Ocean Blvd at Pine...I think it is "Rock Bottom". We lived in Long Beach for many years, until our escape in 2003.

Great park, and it was realy nice of the park workers to put the awning up for you while you were away, I guess that will compinsate the $50.00 per night fee that time. It's better than buying a new awning. I have camped there 4 times and they have raised the price each new visit, but if you add all the activities in walking distance, and the tram I guess its OK, besides its the only RV Park in the city.

We had high wind gusts here in San Antonio yesterday, also. It took one man's awning. The park owner here at Traveler's World was also going around putting down awnings for people who were not at home. Very helpful owners. This park is very busy this weekend because of the Alamo Bowl.
