Trying a new destination in June

Made reservations at Hilton Head RV Resort and Marina for the third week of June. Another area of the country that we have not visited before and therefore are totally unfamiliar with. Reviews are great, google earth view looks good, so we are looking forward to a new place to spend a week. Any insights on the area and must sees? We are planning a trip to Savannah for a day as we were considering camping there, but this facility caught our eye and interest.

Bingo and Cathy - Our adventures begin in the hills of WV. We are blessed by our 2014 3850FL Big Sky (previous 2011 3750FL and 2007 3400RL) that we pull with a 2007 Chevy Silverado Classic DRW CC dually.

Great park Bingo - you're gonna love it. Hilton Head is a very nice spot with lots to do.

Savannah is also really neat, but I'm not sure a day trip will do it justice. Great camping at Skidaway Island near Savannah.

We stayed there several years ago prior to our first Monte. Nice place. Had a site that backed up to the dock overlooking the water. Most of the sites are privately owned and are rented out when not in use by the owner. Not a lot to do in the CG but Hilton Head is a neat community. People seemed a little snobbish since most of them were in high dollar motor homes and we pulled in with a 30' tag-along, but we had a good time. Enjoy.

Savannah and Charleston are both historical communities that are wonderful to walk around and see. Check out the Visitor's Center in both to get an idea of what to do--or check them out on the internet. The plantations around the area are really interesting--check out our travel log to see what areas we saw a few years ago. Have a great time.

We stayed there in Oct. of 2013. When we arrived to check in, we were given a map of the park and a golf cart and we were able to pick the space we wanted. At the marina, you can charter a boat to go fishing in the inner coastal waterways. We did a 4 hr. private charter and really enjoyed being out on the water. At the time we were there it was catch and release only. We caught several different sharks. Both of us caught a good sized Red Fish and my husband caught a Sting Ray. It took him over a half hour to real it in. We didn't know what it was until it was close to the boat.
We took a day trip into Savannah. We took a trolley tour which was very interesting. After the tour we were dropped off by the water. We ended up walking the whole tour, so we could see everything up close. When you are ready to head back to your vehicle, Parking in the tour parking lot, you call the trolley company and they will pick you up where ever you are at. The Hilton Head area and Savannah area was one of our favorite stops on our 6 month trip.

When we bought our Monty last April, we booked a state park in Virginia, not far from the RV dealer, so we could be close as we tried out our new rig. The Monty was fine, but the CG was not. We pulled up stakes and headed south down the coast. I had been looking at Myrtle Beach CGs and Hilton Head Island for future trips. The family voted for HHI, so I called them for availability that morning and that afternoon we rolled in.

It's a lovely CG and we were very tempted to purchase a site (they always have some re sales.). We felt the people there were friendly enough, but we tend to keep to ourselves, unless you have a dog (then you run the risk of me asking to pet it!)

My husband and daughter are foodies and were in restaurant heaven! I can't even remember all the restaurants we went to, but except for the "we just got in, unhitched and we need a quick meal" Applebee's, ALL the restaurants were exceptional. HHI RV Resort has their own restaurant, which had wonderful food, but was pricy.

The beach we found was nice, and had a metered parking lot. Although the beach itself was nothing special, the elevated wooden walkways through the trees between the parking lot and beach were very pretty.

There's also an Irish shop that sells all sorts of Irish goods, from Irish sweaters to kilts to Irish food on the approach from the north into the CG. If you like quaint shops with lovely proprietors, I recommend stopping in.

By the way, my signature picture is from HHI RV Resort and Marina.

From the responses, it sounds like we picked a good place to stay. Can't wait to see if we get lucky on a good sight! Thanks all for the confirmation!
