Harness breaking on my 3400RL
A couple of months ago, I had a harness on my desk & entertainment center slide replaced. It broke where it was connected to the wall. Now I noticed the same thing happening to the harness on my sofa/dinette set slide. It is cracked about 90% of the way where it connects to the wall.
Anyone else seeing this problem? Is this a poor design or what? It has to be ordered and my service center won't order any warranty work until they see the problem. Now I have to take it over there for them to see it and wait about 10 days for the part to get there then take it back over for the repair.

I don't understand what you are talking about when you say harness? Is it the wiring harness, if so I don't understand it being cracked.

It is the wiring harness. A long flat piece of plastic that is about 6" wide. It attaches to the frame by a pin and screwed to the wall on the other end. That is the piece that cracks and breaks off.

This has been a problem several members have had, but not me (yet). There have been a variety of solutions, including using a door hinge. Best bet is to search, or hope some of the affected see the post and give you the scoop on their approach.

This has happened to 2 of our slides. There were some pictures posted last year showing the fix with door or gate hinges. That is what we did and we carry an extra set of hinges with us. Our unit was way out of warranty before this happened.

Dick, I have those pics loaded on my computer if you want to see them. But I need to know how to email you via your email address. I have had both of mine break. One of them was fixed right after we got the trailer. The other one needs to be repaired this spring. It is a really bad design if you ask me. Our entertainment slide broke 2 months after we bought the trailer. I am going to have to get my daughters father in law fix the livingroom slide. I just can't get under there anymore. You can PM me and give me your email address and I will get those pics to you if you are interested. Kathi

Thanks Kathi. I looked and looked for them and couldn't find them. Maybe you should post them again for the newer members.

Ken,
Thank you for posting that. I looked and looked and couldn't find it. I think TrailerTrash2 posted some pictures also over a year ago. Maybe Glenn could put these on the home page since it seems to be a problem a lot of people have.

After 3 months out of warranty all 3 broke, Keystone wouldn't fix! This is one reason we bought an extended warranty. They fixed with the exact same material, we'll see how long these last, seeing our camping season is a short one being Michiganders. Stacy

As murphy's law says mine will break as soon as I finish reading this, just curious what the fix is on the road when it happens? Does the harness drop to the ground?

We used duck tape on the second one until we could get home. Held for several months last summer when we were in Flagstaff. We carry an extra hinge with us.

We have three of the wiring harness broken on our 2005 3500 RL.
I had thought of the hinge idea and was going to give it a try when we stop.
We had one of the harnesses "fixed" under warranty about a year ago and it broke almost immediately.

Humm. We keep a close watch on the harnesses because of the many reports on this forum and others. Other brands use the same set up. Our 06 3400 show no signs of weakness, any one had a problem with them breaking on a 06 model..perhaps Keystone did a upgrade.

Just saw this thread.
We had a wiring harness on our 05 3400 snap last month close to the outside edge of the entertainment slide before we headed out of Florida for RI. Were way out of warranty.
A neighbor suggested a rubber "gasket maker" material cut to size and bolted to the two cracked ends.
It works fine.
We keep an extra set of rubber gasket makers in the toolbox.

When I posted in this thread back in March, I said Murphys law will apply to me. It is now June, and I've had to fix both the entertainment and living room slide. I used door hinges for mine.
Bad thing about the MOC:
When something breaks on somebody elses Monty and I read about it - mine will break shortly
Good thing about the MOC:
After mine breaks, I already know from somebody else how to fix it!

The 06 models still have the problem. Ours broke last week in Oregon. I reattached it with 3 of those nylon tie straps. It looks pretty secure, and I think it'll hold until we get back home. The hinge looks like a good long-term fix.

We have had two of the four slides broken with the third one showing wear. I drilled holes in both haves of the broken ones and the unbroken one and "tied" them back together with nylon wire ties. It was easy and has shown no further problems yet.
