Our 2001 3670Rl has 6 lug 16" wheels. As far as the "heavier units" having 8 lugs, our unit GVWR is 14100#, how much heavier do I need? I was hoping for 8 lugs so I could mount the aluminum wheels from my truck on the camper but... My concern is the replacement wheels having enough capacity weight ratings.

Rescue1 - Wow, I didn't realize they used 6-lug on the heavier rigs back in 2001 - I'm only familiar with what we saw in 2003 and later when we bought ours.
Anyway - I've got the same 6-lug and was concerned about the heavier rated wheels. I just went with this company http://www.hispecwheel.com/ (series 4) and will have them installed tomorrow morning. They are rated for 3,200 lbs.
Ironically the Load Range D tire ST series 235/85R16 is rated for the full capacity of the wheel at 3,200 lbs@65psi, but a Load Range E tire LT series ST235/85R16 that Montana used is only rated for 3,042 lbs but at 80 psi. Not sure what tires you are running, but I believe Montana used both ST and LT through the years. Glenn can give you some good heads up on the pros and cons of either, but I know you don't want to swap ST series tires onto you TV, as they are only rated for 65mph. Either way, these wheels were designed for it. It was the highest load alloy wheel I could find for the 6-lug hubs.

Good info on replacement wheels thanks. I was talking about swapping the stock GM alumunum wheels onto the Monty. I would have to change the drums to an 8 lug pattern. I currently have LT tires on the truck and the Monty.

Rescue1 - I briefly considered swapping to 8 lug hubs through Al-Ko (Hayes Axle) that Montana used in 2003. It gets complicated - as there was one axle that would accept both 6 and 8-lug hubs. Whether or not I have it, I don't know (requires crawling underneath). Once I found out the brakes are a different size and a cost of around $250 for each braked hub ($150 each non-braked hubs) I didn't bother. Getting too complicated for me - and the existing axles with 6-lug are the correct capacity anyway. I figured it would be overkill.

Well with all things considered, I would be better off staying with the 6 lugs. If I needed to change brake linings or other brake parts it might be different. Thanks.

Brad, all of the older ones had the 6 lug wheels. They were using the Alko-Kober axles in those days. The newer Dexter axles have 8 lugs. Both axles are the same rating, 6,000 lbs except on the lightest rigs. Our 2003 3295RK was one of the heaviest Montanas, heaviest GVWR in 2003 and it had 6 lug axles.
See another Montana or Mountaineer on the road? Flash lights twice, it might be one of us!

Steve -
I agree, except in '03 they did put 8-lugs on the heavier end Montana's and Big Sky models (see Mike's MAMalody input on page 1, his 2003 3575RL has the 8 lug). In 2003 we were going to ask the Dealer to order the Big Sky wheels for ours, but all we saw were 8-lugs in the lot and mine were 6-lug. They may have even been the Alkober (hayes) axles still in 2003, as my Alkober manual lists both 6 and 8 lug hubs.

Thanks Lonnie,
This is the manufacturer in Elkhart Ind, but the only sell to the RV & Trailer Manufacturers.
http://www.hispecwheel.com/
I went through an internet distributer
http://www.trailertiresandwheels.net...78/page/549659
Still punched in China - but the only alloy manufacturer I could find other than Allied that had a 6-lug rated for 3,200@85psi. They just had more styles than Allied. They do have several 110psi rated wheels, but they are all 8-lug.

Brad, I knew the Big Sky had 8 lugs but had forgotten about that when I posted. As for the 3575, was that OEM? The 3575 has a lighter GVWR than the 3295RK although it, per specs, has UVW 460 lbs heavier. I have never seen an 8 lugger on a non-big sky 2003 except for a few that had axles replaced with the 8 luggers at extra cost after the sale. Apparently I am wrong, though. Thanks for the info.
Very nice looking wheels!

Steve - You may still be right. It might be that Montana was introducing some early changes for the later 2003 models, especially if they already had the axles on the Big Sky's. Our late model 2003 had a raised roof update, sitting right next to an early model 2003 with the flat roof.
