Hydraulic Pump/System Leak!

I have a 2005 Montana with 3 slides. Noticed yesterday while servicing the battery, my hydraulic system is leaking. Looks like half the fliud has leaked into the metal pan under the pump. Anyone have any problems with the system? Mine has only been used about 20-30 times. I can't tell if the leak is from the pump or hydraulic lines because I can't extend my slideouts- it's in a covered storage unit. Of course my unit is out of warranty since March and the nearest dealer is 65 miles away.
Any info out there??

Thanks,
Lee Ullmann

Just a thought, It seems it MAY be a with the system leak not under pressure, clean all the oil up, add oil to the line on the tank, and recheck in a few days. If it has leaked, that narrows down the points of potential problems.
I would try and tighten anything that you can, look for any hoses rubbing in that compartment as well.
Is it possible to move the slides just a little? If so, valve off all but one, test that, then move on to another, and so on.
Let us know your progress.
Good luck, Ozz

Hey Ozz,

My owners manual is locked in the RV. What type hydraulic fluid does the book call for?
I need to fill it up to the fill line.

Thanks,
Lee Ullmann

Dale (MIMF), who works at Lippert, who builds those things, says use the cheapest ATF you can find. Color doesn't matter.

Lee, Dale is a very helpful guy. He works for the company who built that pump and the slide mechanisms. He is very willing to help you understand what you are dealing with. His phone number is 866-524-7821 ext 4542 toll free.

What a guy. It is really nice to have that kind of support from Lippert.

Steve, Hope to see your 3400 in my drive soon. It is a fine looking machine.

I had a very small weep in my system that only lost a few drops a week. I would get Donna to run the pump while I watched. This was last Nov. when the trailer was new. I tightened all the connections and they were fine. It turned out to be a crimp on hose connection. In this picture of the slide safety switch I installed, you can see how I fixed this. I used a small piece of Gylon sealant tape and clamped it in place with a hose clamp. look on the lower right hand of the pic and you will see it. 9 months later and the system is bone dry and works great.

Mike,

Dont want to change the tread subject so drop me a message if you want to know more. I use my EBPV valve as an exhaust brake by a few wiring changes and relays. I installed a ground path through a switch to manually lock the torque converter during descent on steep hills.

Don, what is Gylon sealant tape? That sounds like something I should have in my toolbox.
