One 2000 watt Honda makes more noise than a 3000 IS and 2 is over twice as loud.

My main thing was bringing something different to the table for you besides the two 2000's or one 3000 scenario. I am trying to decide whether I want to spend some money on solar or go the single small generator route for watching tv when boondocking as my built in unit is way overkill as it is designed to run two AC's. Uses a lot of propane to just watch tv using the satellite.

I have used my Yamaha 2400 with two 5th wheel trailers and three different A/C units (Carrier 15K, Coleman Mach 15K, and Dometic.) It has started and run all three without any problem.

OK guys, still have not bought anything, however something else has peeked my interest. HF has come out with a inverter gen set for 1/2 the price of a Honda 2000i. https://www.harborfreight.com/2000-w...tor-62523.html

They also have a 3500 for about $650 on sale that has good reviews. since this would only be a few times a year thing, dry camping, would this be a good option to consider? https://www.harborfreight.com/engine...tor-63584.html

Thanks

Not me. Our Honda's are at least ten years old (bought them used on Craigs list) and they still start 1st time every time. For us, when we need a generator isn't the time to discover they aren't working. Dependability and being long lasting, for me, makes up for the higher price.

We only boondock in the winter, so one Honda 2000 works fine for us.

I've been using one of their 4kw regular ones for three years now and have no complaints at all - it's far less noisy than a semi, but I have been looking at that new inverter 3.5kw one. It's not as rated quite as quiet as the Honda, but is lighter and has higher peak and running watts. I'll probably get one next spring for certain.

I bought a champion 3400 watt invertor and am pleased with it. Got it on sale at tractor supply for 699.00 It runs one a/c and the residential ice box no problem. I do turn off the batteries,

I just bought the HF 3500. Only used it a few times so far. I am impressed. It is quiet and starts on the first pull or push of button. Just changed the oil after 8 hours and have not needed it again. It ran my 15K AC with no problem. I watched several you tube videos comparing the Honda and HF and decided to give it a try. Now trying to figure out where to store it, as I have a SB truck and no hitch on back of Montana.

HF 3500 has really good reviews and the price is right. Looking forward to your review after using it a year or so.

Hi

I would check on their system for support if repairs or parts are needed.

I sold my i3000eu and went with 2 Honda 2000's Both are great units. The noise ratings are higher than the 3000 but I personally could not tell the difference. The big reason for switching was the weight factor. Mine was not permanently mounted and the older I got, the heavier the unit got. The disadvantage is the fuel capacity and no electric start option. The 2000's have smaller tanks. IMO, Hondas are the only way to go. After sitting idle for a year. I replaced the fuel and it started on the second pull. I sold the 3000 for about 85 percent of what I paid for it after 4 years. Good luck and happy travels.

I have been very happy with 2 Honda 2000s. Normally only use one unless I am going to use air conditioning. Another advantage of 2 units is redundancy. The electric start 3000 Honda is too heavy to lug around and the 3000 Honda Handi is a little underpowered. Camped last weekend about 600 yards from someone using a Champion - it was noisy. If the new HF units are as quiet as they advertise you could replace the unit almost twice for the price of a Honda.

There is a Honda generator box that is made from a company in Lake Havasau City, AZ. It is made out of diamond plate and is designed to be run in the box and started without moving it. It is lockable and bolted to the bed of the truck. There are cutouts for the exhaust, the choke and the pull cord. Hard to explain but it works great and when the panels are closed you wouldn't know what is inside.

Do you try to use ethanol free gas in generators or stabilizer?

I don't use ethanol free gas. I do cut the fuel off and run it until it stops. I've had my IS 3000 for over 10 years and the only time it failed to start was when the battery died. I do you high test. On regular it tends of lope a bit which it don't do when I use high test.

I have two 7500W Generac units, purchased for Hurricane Rita and used for Ike - I did the fuel shut off and run dry - need to drag them out, new batteries, test run and sell them - will be a good test for the run dry method. During Rita, used nearly $100/day for 7 days and more for Ike - hate hurricanes

Gentlemen please use the “I” on your Honda 2000 gen sets Honda made a 2000 a number of years ago that was a 3600 rpm unit that was very noisy.

We ran from the storm earlier this month with the Montana and when we returned to the stick house there was very little damage but no power.

We stayed in the Montana using the paired Honda 200i’s running just the power cord length from the trailer with no problem.

Used a standard 3600rpm 6KW unit to power the house for water, hot water and refrigerator and freezer but it wouldn’t pull the AC in the house. This way we wouldn’t fill the waste tanks in the Montana.

When the power came back I loaned the gen sets to friends that needed them.
