I agree the industry needs a wake up call and I would certainly be willing to pay a little more for higher quality.

One thing I really think would help is if the manufactures would offer real differences in their various product lines. If there was a much larger gap in quality of build between the 20' bumper pull for the young family with very little money that was only going to use it on the weekend and the 40' full timers 5th wheel that would make some sense.

For sure it would be nice if the manufactures offered serious "Upgrade packages" such as disc brakes, IS, quality tires and cushioned pin boxes. Likewise packages for higher end finish and maybe even a quality build option where they spent extra time labeling wiring and plumbing and stringing it up properly. The dealers never tell you this sort of stuff. They just want to get the trailers out the door exactly like they come out of the factory. That really needs to change!

Having been through the Montana plants numerous times (like 12 years straight at the Fall Rallies) and talking to not just the tour guides on the plant tours at the Rallies but also the top individuals in management there, the QC is important to them. The problem is there is one individual for each team as the units go down the line to check work and QC the individuals work that are doing in his or her section. This individual cannot inspect the work done by 6-10 installers in their section completely. As a unit moves down the line the work and installation done in the prior section of the line is covered up and this continues down the line till it comes to the final inspection. At final inspection the errors or incorrectly done work is all buried under a completed unit. There is no way to go back and correct those errors so they inspect the outside and some of the visible inside errors and mark them up. This is "red tagged or taped" and corrections are done. Montana has a new building for QC ing units but these are pulled off the end of the line and gone through by management themselves. Again this is done on the final unit and not as the unit is coming down the line. This is a start to the QC problem and hopefully this will continue to progress to the line work also. I'm not making excuses because QC has been a problem for years and the MOC Fall Rally attendees have let management know about it and it is slowly becoming one of the priorities but it still has a long way to go to meet all of our satisfaction. Demand has a lot to do with the QC problem also because they the manufacturers have a high demand for putting out as many as they can to get to the dealers. This isn't just the Keystone Montana, it's all RV manufacturers and ALL RV manufactures are coming up with the same problems period. The dealer is not willing to wait 6-8 months to get a unit they ordered or that one of their customers have ordered and the demand is high for output by the manufacturer thus less QC and more volume output.
