Bule ox bedsaver and other stuff
Had a talk with Blue ox this morning and found out that they NO LONGER manufacturer the bed saver. They stopped manufacturer two months ago. The reason was low sales due to folks saying there is no need for a bed saver as they could never drop their 5th wheel. He also said that they have been getting many calls since then from folks wanting to order the bed saver or expressing disappointment that they no longer make them...Go figure.
Why was I talking to Blue Ox. I purchased a Hensley trailer saver BD3 air hatch and wanted to know if my present bed saver would fit or can be modified to fit.. We are working on that.
Why did we purchase the trailersaver air hitch. We now have the drawtite/Reese 16 K hitch that is over 10 years old and thought it was time for a change. We have had more than one Frame flex experience on the 06 3400 and now experiencing the same on our 13 3402. We have zero confidence in the integrity of the frame based on past experience and the experience of fellow MOC members as well as other forums. We are spending the $$ to protect against what we consider a near 100% chance of frame failure as we do put a lot of miles on this Montana. That is our experience and corrective actions it may not apply to anyone else.

Contrats, BD3 has been on my list. Someday I'll get smart and just do it!
Oh, the topic was Blue Ox.. I was blinded by my hitch envy

My kind of insurance policy. An insurance policy you pay for once.
How much did the Bed Saver cost? It was a simple device that someone could make. I know if I wonted one I would just make it but I would never drop my camper. You don't believe that do you?

Ok I have my second hitch and my second BlueOX. Would not be without it. I got distracted and dropped my 2010 Mountaineer and the Blueox saved my truck bed. It cost $250.00 installed and I saved 10 times that when it saved the dropped rig. The second one was about $300.00 still cheep insurance. The best safety device is a passive device and that is what the blueox is. As I like to say its idiot proof. I for one am sorry they are not make them anymore.

Lynwood I purchased my bed saver way back in 2006 and I forgot what we paid for it. I think the one we have can be adapted if it is not a perfect fit to the Trail save you can still get one from places like tweety's as they are still out there in stock. It would not be hard to make one if you had the expertise.

We have a blue ox bedsaver on our Curt and had a different brand on our old Reese. Sorry to hear they quit making them, but surely other manufacturers are still out there?

Had to go with Butch's since Blue Ox combined a lack of customer service with an in ability to fit our Reese's hitch (go figure). Have been very happy with Butch's.

I wouldn't think I will have that problem because i have a handle that closes the jaws and needs a pin to lock it in place. Its the first thing i do when hooking up the 5er. I have the companion hitch from B&W

The Bone; You may get some comments on your post, but I'm on your page. Don't get distracted. Look at the jaws. Insert the pin. Good to go. I use a padlock instead of the pin if I'm travelling and will be stopping at rest areas or truck stops along the way. It gives me peace of mind even though I make it a habit to do a "walk around" be fore we take off.

I'm with you hickory. I lock my BW hitch it is too much temptation for someone to pull the pin and flip the handle and leave you with your camper setting on your truck.

Simple Definition of accident
1
: a sudden event (such as a crash) that is not planned or intended and that causes damage or injury
2
: an event that is not planned or intended : an event that occurs by chance

There is no difference between a little accident and a big one except the little one does no harm and the big one kills someone. It can be the same accident.

Seeing that I am not perfect and can make a mistake or have a accident we went with the bedsaver.
