In bed wiring solution

I've wanted to add an in bed plug to my truck for some time but didn't want to splice into the existing harness due to the salty winters in upstate NY. I recently found this
http://www.etrailer.com/Custom-Fit-V...893-11932.html
It seems all the truck manufacturers are now using a common plug in the wiring harness. easy plug and play, just have to figure where you want the 2" hole for the new plug.

We had a second plug installed in our truck when we had the new hitch installed. Had them place the plug on the left side of the bed between the rear wheel hump and the tail gate. That way it is out of the way of anything we might hall in the bed of the truck. I can also reach it without having to climb up into the bed too.

Our first one was there and then the trailer cord ripped the cover off it when it got caught on the generators. The new one is directly above the wheel well. So far so good.

I had NO hole drilled. Instead I fished the cable up the wide area below the drivers side stake pocket and through an opening placed there at the factory into the bed. The receptacle is located at the end of this cable and I keep it out of the way with a bungee cord under the lip of the bed rail. I simply pull the receptacle out and plug in when towing. Otherwise the cable and receptacle are tucked neatly under the bed rail. No holes, no muss no fuss.

I purchased my Reese Elite hitch from e-trailer and they supplied me with the cable you speak of for no additional charge. They are a good company to deal with.

X2 on E trailer being a good company. They've treated me right, and saved me a good deal of money on several occasions.

My truck came this way with the wire connections being silicone gel filled, so no worrys about corrosion. This location would be easy to install (straight up stake tube) and has great access (for me). I've never had issue to damage it. By the way ...Ishler ... your find looks like a good install possibility. I've used a similar flat connector kit (Hopkins) to tee into the existing wiring harness on my kids pickup for his trailer connection ... it's pretty much "plug and play".

I was going to put mine there but was afraid I'd snag it loading and unloading the truck during normal use. Instead I placed it in the corner just above the tie down.

Mike: that's the harness that we went last fall when we decided an in bed plug was a must. It was a simple, slick install. No regrets, will never be without an in bed plug again and ours is mounted a little inside above the tie down as well.
