We did our 3400RL PDI today!
Well, everyone, we did our PDI today on our '06 3400RL. After we had our orientation, we asked the serviceman to leave us alone while we had our lunch (our first meal in our new home), and we looked over everything twice!
Rich, you were right about the time it takes to do a good inspection! We were there for nearly 5 hours!
Rick, you were right about ordering the Demco Glide-Rite pin box! Everyone at the dealership was talking about it after they used one of their own TV's to move the trailer from their storage lot to the dealership so that we could do our inspection.
The only systems we did not check were the plumbing and hot water due to the fact that the trailer is winterized and we are still in the 20's for lows at night. We did get a "Due Bill" for another inspection of these systems when we take actual physical delivery, sometime around the middle of March.
We are just so anxious to get started, but we ordered a GMC 3500 Duramax and it is scheduled to be built on 2/27/06 and delivered to the dealer on March 15! Such a long time from now...IMO.
I've got a lot of reading - the packet of information, manuals, warranties, etc. is over 5 inches thick!
Because of the great information on this forum, and although I am new to this lifestyle, I have learned so much that I was able to ask pointed and pertinent questions of the serviceman while we were conducting our inspection. And, FYI, we got the Quest 3000 and the CCC thermostat because I knew to ask about this!
What a lot to digest, and learn! I am so worried about not being able to back this thing up (but I do want to be on the road, Orv), so when we get our truck, the first stop is the WalMart parking lot, complete with road cones for practicing backing up, etc.
The next stop after the initial purchases at Wally World, is to go to Camping World for a toy store extravaganza!
Thanks, everyone for the continued good information and positive nature of the posts.
Michael & Kathy

I like hearing about happy people.
Most of us 3400 owners know by now, but one thing they did not cover with us at the PDI was the location of the by-pass valve for the hot water heater. And of course this information was not in our book! They did show us where the redirection valve close to the water pump was and how to suck the antifreeze out of its bottle. But if you don't turn the by-pass valve, you will spend most of your time filling the hot water heater with antifreeze.
Although we took possession on our 06 unit in Nov. of 05, we had taken it out on two ocassions before the weather here in Texas went below freezing. When I rushed out to put some antifreeze in it, I reaized I did not know where the water heater by pass was. And of course, the dealership was closed for the day and the temperature was falling fast.
For some reason I decided to look behind this annoying looking 6" brown plastic cover that was on the wall between the stove and sink. To my surprise, through the hole behind this cover that was just big enough to put my hand through, I could just see the by pass valve tucked way down below some of the water hoses and just barely within my reach. I turned the valve and finished the job.
Now I know what this goofly looking plastic cover is for.

Hot diggity dogs!!!! It is finally here. Part of the fun is learning your how your new pull toy works. Let me encourage you not to get too uptight about everything. Things will fall into place with a little practice. On just about everything, a decision to slow down and think, is a sound decision. Make and follow meaningful check lists. Well, enough of the advice giving. Happy trails......
