3700RL recliner nuisance!

One of the few things that we find aggravating with our Big Sky is that every time we move, the two recliners have to be manhandled to make clearance to pull in the slides.

In the 3700RL the two recliners are in the rear facing inward toward the kitchen. In this position, even when shoved against the rear window, they are just about 1" too big to clear the slide out. We have to remove the center table, then rotate both chairs so that they sit back to back against the window. Then we have the clearance to pull in the slides.

Has anyone devised a better way to rotate these recliners? We certainly don't need to risk a hernia every time we move.

I feel ya pain. We have the 3402 and must return the recliners so there facing each other. It stinks. In our old 2955 we switched the couch and recliners, so all we had to do is slide the recliners back a little. In our current 3402 we can't do the same switch. The couch is to deep and would hit the slides.

Same here. We thought about swapping the sofa and chairs, but as you say the sofa is too big too. One of the newer floor plans does have the sofa in the rear.

We have that same issue with our 3150RL. The best thing we could do was to cut a round piece of plywood and attached it to the round frame of the recliners. I removed the small plastic slides that cane with the reclines and used those holes to attach the plywood. Then went to Home Depot and picked up some of those furniture slides that are about 6" wide by about 8" long and attached them around the outer edge of the plywood.
By doing this it made the recliners much easier to slide in and out of position.

We pushed the recliners one to many times - we replaced them with two Lazy Boy wall huggers which are so light to move and turn.
Well worth the investment.

I don't know about the new recliners, but on previous models, some members had placed a hot water tank catch pan under theirs which slid easily on the carpeting. If that doesn't work, I would think some of the small furniture slider cups should work to make it easier to slide around?

If your recliners have the round tubular base like ours, get a couple of plastic water heater drain pans. You might measure, but they perfectly fit the base on our recliners.
Makes the recliners slide much easier on the carpet as they distribute the weight more and the plastic is slicker.

Our 3000rk has the same problem too. But we also have some very oversized recliners lol lol The comfort they provide is well worth the muscling around we have to do. Not sure how you could do it with out muscling them since there is not a lot of space. I reckon some of the suggestions to help them slide easier is the only answer...

We use the plastic water heater drain pans and they do fit the recliner base perfectly although we trimmed the top lip down a bit so not to rub on the chair's wood frame.

They slide so much better, but moving them is still a bit of a pain.

Plumbing supply stores sell plastic trays to put under water heaters. When Their sides are cut to fit the height of the base of your chair and zip tied to that base the chairs become much easier to slide.

Never thought about the plastic pan idea and I'll have to try it. With ours, the recliners are in the street side slideout. LOML complained about not bringing them out every time we spend even a night somewhere until I told her to just go drag one out herself. No more complaints, but it would really be nice to be able to use them more.

This is an inconvience with most any brand of fiver with the recliners in the rear. I've lived with it in my 2980 and continue to horse the recliners around in my 3150. It really isn't that bad if you turn the recliners sideways and just push with your knee while holding on to the the back or just grabbing under the valance and pulling out sideways coming back out. Like mentioned, the hot water heater pans have been said to help. Wildly guessing, I'd say the reason for turning them sideways during travel is to keep them from knocking the rear window out from people not wanting to take the time to chinch them down if they were able to be left forward facing.

This seems to be the best solution as was discussed on a previous thread. We just junked the old recliners and bought new ones at Costco that were lighter, sturdier, more comfortable and leather. Pineranch got the same ones and I believe he's happy with them as well.

Just got back from Lowes. They only have aluminum pans at $21.00 each. Guess I'll head to Home Depot tomorrow.

I had forgotten I had to cut the sides down a little as noted above. I used a saber saw to cut mine.

I first tried the plastic water heater pans (with cut-down sides). It made it slightly easier to move the recliners. I then used the 24" plywood rounds from HD along with the plastic furniture movers. Winner! They slide so well that the DW can move them easily.

Plus it you are tall like I am, the chair sits higher off the floor. Much easier on the knees.

We just trashed the sofa and put our cat tree at the rear window.
