Refrigerator question

We had a keystone sprinter and it took a couple of days for the fridge to cool down. We were expecting the one in the Montana to cool down alot quicker but is does seem to. Is this correct with all trailer systems?

Yup, they all take at least a good day or two to get really cold.

We normally turn on the frig a day or two before we even pack the unit for a trip. If you can plug in the unit it's easier than the gas use. I normally put something in the freezer with some water in it so it will freeze to make sure it is working correctly too. I'm sure you know since you are a prior owner of an RV that you should put cooled down things in the frig and not newly purchased warm items because it takes a lot longer to cool the whole frig down if you add warm items to a newly turned on unit. We try and put our milk, juices, veggies and other such items in the home frig before putting them in the Monties frig just to take the stress of the units frig for cooling things down. I also slide the colding sensor on the fins of the frig up so it will cool down faster then slide it back down if needed because of freezing in the frig itself.

Like others, we turn our fridge on the day before we are to leave for a trip. This habit has resulted in having to add another battery, since the rig stays in mini-storage and the fridge would run the battery down in a day due to the other loads present when the rig is hooked up to battery (detectors, remote control board, etc.). I think the documentation for most fridges recommend 4-8 hours to achieve cooling.

If we don't get it turned on the day before I put the cold things in and about 2 frozen cold packs..that helps it to cool down and also works like an ice chest until it cools. Usually it cools to under 45 in several hours. We keep critical things like mess in a small icechest until refer cools down

It also cools down much quicker in the gas mode vs. electric.

Wouldn't it be nice if we could use gas & electric at the same time like with the water heater? Cool down twice as fast!
