Platinum Protection Systems

So after 6 years with our Montana Mountaineer we are finally selling her to a young family and buying a 3790RD. We are very excited about this. Hoping to take delivery in a few weeks time.

Our dealer has offered us "Platinum Protection Systems" from a company called "ECP Incorporated" which is an exterior and internal application of a protective coating. The sales woman recommends it - but then I am sure she would wouldn't she.

Has anyone heard of this? Anyone else paid the money for it (sorry I don't remember how much she quoted for it). Once you had it its like a warranty for your external and internal surfaces. If anything get ripped or stained etc they will fix it.

We take a great deal of care over our rig and I am not really sure this is worth it. Also I don't know I want some chemicals sprayed internally in the unit - there are enough in there from Keystone anyway!

Anyone have any thoughts on this?

This is in addition to an extended warranty btw.

Thanks!
Chris

My opinion is that this is a dealers way to extract more of the green stuff from a customer.

Also known as a $4 can of Scotchgard for the interior...

We did the exterior only. It is guaranteed to maintain the finish for five years. Beings our trailer sits outside all the time and we plan to spend most of our time in the sun I thought it was a good investment.

I have consider just the exterior, basically for the same reasons as you, will see what they charge for that, or just go with some decent wax.

One nice thing is not only do you not need to wax they tell you not to wax it because some waxes will gradually remove the protection. Works for me.

Would you mind sharing with me how much you paid for just the exterior to be covered?

We just negotiated it in with the buying of the 5th wheel. We got the trailer down to a price I could work with and I just said we had a deal if they would through that in and they did. Not sure what it would have cost otherwise. I’m thinking somewhere around $600.00 or $700.00 but not sure.

They wanted 2200 bucks for our 3790RD, I thought I could buy a lot of wax for that price and as I understand it the coating slowly disappears and after 3yrs or so is basically none existent. I've waxed the unit twice since new and although it is a big job it is worth while as it presents a close inspection process of areas you don't notice otherwise. I have caught a couple small sealant issues before they become an problem as a result.

The protection package is kind of like an extended warranty. They will ask for the moon and settle for 1/2 if you work them a little. If it comes down to either they throw it in or you walk, they will not let you walk. Part of what you are paying for is not so much the product itself but the (5 years) guarantee that backs it up.

You are getting the trailer that we are hoping to get in a few months. It well be interesting to hear how you like it after you have it for awhile.

Will report back here for sure. The wait is killing us, may have to call the dealer today to find out where it is, but honestly when I have called before they really have no idea...

I have a mobile wash-wax done annually for $200. It takes about 4 hours and I like the results. I don't recommend any dealer applied coating for the exterior. Scotch Guard goes a long way inside! Keeps my $$ in my pocket longer!
