Cabela's, Kearney NE

Cabela's--outfitters par excellance in Kearney NE (and other places too though this is site specific to Kearney) is certainly a planned stop on many itineraries. It sure was on ours as we have visited several other of their locations with much success. As expected, the store was super. Cabela's offers their Kearney customers the option of overnite boondocking in their parking lot (be sure to get permission from the store) which we were grateful to discover. Bill enjoyed a great night of sleep as he can ZZZ through anything. Pat had a great night counting the 31 (yes, 31!!) trains which whistled their way past on the tracks about 1000 ft from the parking lot. At breakfast we realized that this was probably the reason there was only one other RV in the lot. Soooooo, if you want to boondock in this lot be sure to bring a good set of ear plugs, something which we will add to our kit as we plan to return on our next trip to Denver.

For those running a bit further south, there's a new (maybe a year old) Cabela's in Kansas, west of Kansas City, NW of the junction of I-70 and I-470 (KC bypass).

That Cabela's complex at KC (right next to the big new NASCAR track) is quite an experience. We live not far South of the Kearney one and have tried to buy the store out a couple of times... But the one in KC is an EXPERIENCE!!!!! Place is huge... More like Bass Pro in Springfield Mo.. Lots and lots of things to look at, fish (live) pretators (Not alive)... took me 4 hours of mooching around in there trying to decide how to spend a $100 gift certificate!
