Avoiding D.C.

Has anyone traveled Rt.301 through Virginia Maryland and Delaware? Is it RV friendly? We are looking to avoid D.C. and Baltimore. Thank you for any help.

301 isn't a horrible ride. It has a lot of congestion at times, and a bunch of traffic lights. I've never done it with the Monty on the back, but I've driven it a bunch.

Depending where you're coming from/going to, 81 is a better alternative.

George, There are a few ways around DC. What is your destination and where will you be coming from?

Last year we took the loop around DC at 5 on Friday, what a mess. To top it off we broke down just as we got on 95 south, DC was a trip to remember (Good Sam Emergency Roadside Service) came to our rescue.
We now go around as far as possible.

When we travel from Delaware to South Carolina that is the route we take. Yes there are a handful of street lights to deal with but not nearly as stressful as traveling around DC. If I remember correctly it is Rt. 207 off of 95 then 301 across the Potomac River bridge (no charge for entering Maryland) then 50/301 across the bay bridge. That'll cost you $7.50 with Monty in tow.

Probably our worst experience on 301 was just about hitting a potato chip truck that decided to stop very quickly as soon as a light turned yellow. I know for a fact a fully loaded 3670 will fit past a potato chip truck on the shoulder. Let's just say I'm glad the awning isn't on the street side....

Yep - 207 to 301, and then 301 will dump back into 95 right after 95 crosses into Delaware
