RGV Map

For those of you who are new to the RGV, if you go to http://www.rgvparks.com/ you will see that they will send you a free map of the area. It shows some of the RV parks and dealers, so it will help you get oriented. You will see that the RGV is really a collection of about a dozen towns and cities strung out along US83.

(I notice that it actually lists 46 parks, and I have heard that there are actually several hundred parks in the area. Some prominent ones that I know of are not listed, so this is just a sampler really.)

Thanks for the tip. We have ordered and received our copy. Be prepared -- your name is shared with RV parks in the area and you will be bombarded with promotional flyers!

What vickster says is true. We have received 12 brochures back so far but they are very helpful and complete with activity schedules and rates. We will be somewhere down there next winter as Helen retires in Oct 06 .We will be monitoring this forum and making a pest out of ourselves asking question of all of you who are there and can tell us first hand about the various parks..

Once in the valley buy the local McAllen/Mission map and mark places like Walmart, Home Depot, grocery stores on it for quick reference until you get to know the area.

A visit to the chamber of commerce in Mission is worthwhile as well...all kinds of information as to events in the area, parks etc.

The torrent of brochures descending upon our mailbox is truly impressive

Yes, Bill, it is. The Manager in this RV Park personally delivers mail to the rigs. Poor guy has been here every day for the past week. This morning he sent a visiting granddaughter! He's probably enjoying the break.

By the way, for those still thinking about going to the Valley, send for this map. Several of the brochures we've received include discount coupons. One was for $100 off on a two-month stay. I don't recall which park but it looked like a nice one. There were several others with lesser discounts but certainly notable. You can probably get the same deal on their websites.

Sent for our map yesterday. Hope to be able to go to the RGV this winter but don't have any reservations yet. Don't think we can leave until the middle of Feb

You are almost certain to find a space somewhere in the RGV. There are just so many campgrounds with thousands of sites among them. The fact that campgrounds are mailing out brochures, suggests that they are still looking for business.

And the fact they're including discount coupons indicates they do not otherwise expect to fill up.
