Rich,
The wire color for the step light on my 2010 3400RL is white/yellow stripe. I removed the wire from the scare light switch and put it on its own dedicated switch. Tim

Rich,
If you decide to put the step light on its own switch you will have to find a hot power source to tie into to supply power to the switch. I did this by tying into the hot supply to the porch light and jumping over to the new switch. With the switch I used I also had to jump to a neutral supply since the switch is a lighted switch. I chose the lighted switch so I would have a visual indication inside the camper when the step light is on. I saw no need to connect to the porch light since when it's on you have no problem seeing the steps plus we hardly never use the porch light. Hope this helps. Tim

After reading this, I decided to do this mod, but wire the stair light to the porch light switch. On mine, the stair light wire was white/purple. I then spliced it to the hot side on the porch light switch. The hot side of the switch is the bottom terminal of the 3 terminals that goes hot when the switch is thrown.
