Hello from a Very New RV'er

We are so new that we don't even have our new Montana 2955RL yet. We pick it up in the morning and are so excited we have considered camping out at the dealer tonight.

My name is Steve and my wife is Betsy. I have never pulled anything larger than a horse trailer, so I'm looking forward to the challenges of pulling this baby tomorrow. We will be pulling our new Montana with a 2001 Ford F250 Super Duty CrewCab 4X4 Shortbed V10. From what I've read so far in the forum I made the right decision when I installed a SuperGlide hitch. Seems to be very popular among the short bed set.

We plan on doing some shakedowns trips locally, (San Diego County, CA), and be ready to strikeout cross country by mid-summer, we hope.

Look forward to meeting some of you along the way and hearing from you online.

Best to all,
Steve and Betsy

I can sure remember how it felt the first time I pulled My montana. It was also the first time I had driven a diesel or owned a truck that big. When I measured the rig from stem to stern it was a whopping 55+ feet. I wondered if I could keep it in just one lane.

Got to say it was easy to learn because Monty pulls so well. If you have never pulled a fiver, you are in for a pleasant surprise. Just take a deep breath and go for it.

By-the-way, welcome to the MOC Forum. It's a great place to gather valuable Rving lore.

Welcome Steve and Betsy to this growing MOC Family.

Well I must say you absolutely made the right decisions on the Montana 2955RL and the PullRite hitch. While I am a Chevy fan that F250 is also great tow vehicle and I know the entire package is going to work great for you.

Good luck this morning and keep us posted on your adventures.

Welcome Steve and Betsy! Your excitement is coming through loud and clear!!! I know you're going to love your new Montana and all the places you'll see and adventures you're sure to experience. Will you be full-timing or keeping your stick house?

You're also going to love being a part of MOC ... this is a great group and information abounds here.

A side note ... I'm from Chula Vista and I have a nephew who lives in Ramona. Hopefully, you were saved from any damage from the Cedar Fire ... we were back that way about a year or so ago and just heartbroken at the devastation we encountered.

This is a great forum. It make a great decision feel even better. Thanks to vickster, stiles watson, Glenn and Lorraine, and vickir for the warm welcome.

As to the question on the Cedar Fire, it missed us by about a 1/4 mile. The countryside has been beautiful this spring with all the rain we have had, but summer is upon us and we'll be back to brown soon. And the fires have already started. I hope they keep them small this year.

Welcome to the forum! We have the 2005 2955RL and the 2001 F250, but ours is a diesel long bed. It has been a great truck for us and the Montana is perfect for us. Enjoy.

Hi Darwin, Maureen, Amie, and Heidi,

I know what you mean about who is in charge. Here it is Robbie and Rory, the Westies running the show.
Thanks for the welcome.

Steve & Betsy: My 2 cents in on the "Welcome". I live in Escondido and there are some great places in SD County for your "shakedowns". Sounds like you have the pioneer spirit!

Welcome aboard, Steve and Betsy, and congratulations on the new rig! By now you have it home and are ready to get out and enjoy it. I think you'll be pleased with the way these Montanas tow. We used to tow ours with the 1999 V10 version of your truck. It should do a terrific job for you.

Hi Steve & Vicki and else who have welcomed us,

We are now official. Any apprehensions I had about towing have passed. It towed so easily that we had to keep checking our mirrors to make sure our Montana was still there.

And Bruce, please pass along your SD favorite getaways. I don't think we'll make it through the holiday without a local excursion.

Welcome Steve and Betsy! You will indeed love your new Montana. I really like the model you selected—not too long but with an abundance of living space.

As to the SuperGlide, well, popular is a bit of an understatement! I have a definite love affair with mine! Not having to worry about the nose kissing the cab of my new F-250 is priceless!

Hi Walter, Lucie, Coco & Pepper,
I'll second that on the towing. It's my first experience with a 5th wheel and most of the time it's hard to believe it's even there. Going up a steep grade I feel the weight, but no worries otherwise.
