Decals

We have a 2005 Montana and the decals are in bad shape. Any suggestions on the best place to buy new decals?

Lots of MOCers have been thru this issue. IMHO--they are cosmetic-remove the worst ones. I am doing that on my 2006. It seems that the dark brown solid colors have taken the worst beating. So, I am removing them--looks better already and leaving the rest alone. A good graphics shop can do almost any design you want to pay for. But don't expect more that 5-6 years of service out of them. I did check at the local Monty dealer last year--$1800 for a full new set--not the same design as the originals. I did not buy any.

The couple that washed/waxed my Montana last week made the comment that the decals on my 2014 appeared to be much thicker than the ones on my Montana last year (2008).

I sure hope they are correct and Montana changed vendors and are using higher quality decals now.

Don't know if they are still available for a 2005. But I recently got new decals for the front and rear from Keystone. My sides still look good. I did have yo install them myself (or pay someone to).
Go to the Keystone web site, get the number for customer service, and give them a call.

I do vinyl sign making...Let me tell you about vinyl decals: The life expectancy of ANY vinyl when exposed to the sun and its UV radiation is 5-6 years. Less if the vinyl used is cheap and doesn't contain any UV stabilizers. You can just about double that life span if you keep it religiously treated with a UV protectant such as 303. Every 5 weeks or so. Other than that....It's going to happen. I apply it to all of my plastic parts and tires too. Also the top of the awning that is always exposed to the sun.
Every pigment known to man fades under UV exposure. Paints, plastics, homes...You name it. If it is pigmented, it will fade. Plastics become brittle. Vinyl awnings rot AND fade.
That's why I've never worried one bit about spending hundreds of dollars on a RV cover. In the northern latitudes, we need to be covered in the summer...Not the winter. A layer of snow and ice actually protects your RV rubber roof from UV oxidation. The sun just can't get to it. Yes, there are UV rays in the winter too (I've gotten sunburned many times skiing). They just aren't nearly as strong.

Hmmmmmmm not necessarily totally true...... I've had several very old trailers with good graphics. My last trailer was an 03 and it looked almost new on the outside when I sold it. Some may have faded a bit but never had the decal leprosy that the Montana's have. Look around a campground and very few RV's peel like a Montana. Face it, Keystone just uses cheap stuff and we pay big money for it.........

I agree with timandsusan. I am removing them as they get to the point that I can't tolerate them any longer. I have a 2007 2955RL and Keystone sent me new graphics yet I likely won't install them. Looks pretty good in solid white to me.

Gary ... curiosity has the best of me ... why did you go to the trouble of obtaining new graphics just to let them sit in the box? They are not that tough to remove and install if you take your time. I reckon "naked" is OK, but a little splash of color here and there brings out the hidden personality of your fiver ...

I'm afraid new decals are moving quickly toward the top of my to-do list. Bought my Montana in March of '13 and the graphics looked good to me. Here I am a year and a half later (2 camping seasons), and the cracking is prevalent on all graphics. By this time next year, I'm sure the peeling will have begun. I'll be contacting Keystone over the winter, for sure.

Hey Bandit, if you decide not to use the decals, I am interested in buying them for my 2955. Please send me an email or PM if you decide to get rid of them.

I have a 2007 3400RL, which we really like, but the decals are peeling. The side ones still have a lot of color, but the front ones have really been hit hard by the sun before we bought the unit used a few years ago. Each time before I wax the front, I scrape off the peeling. Soon there won't be much decal left.

I was at a local vinyl/decal shop a couple days ago asking them about doing a decal for the front of the trailer, using a (high resolution) picture I took of a local mountain (Mount Baker). This shop also wraps vehicles in vinyl and applies decals to all sorts of vehicles, mostly commercial. She said they use the highest quality vinyl and could do a 3' x 4' decal for the front of the trailer from a picture I would give them for less than $500 (CDN) installed! Don't know if I will put the "Montana" name back on the front - maybe just a nice picture of a mountain, keeping it simple.
