batttery question

At the risk of showing my ignorance, I have a battery question. We have a 3400RL that has been in storage for over two years that we are going to start using more after my pending retirement. The current battery (about 3-4 years old) has been on a trickle charger and I check the water frequently but I am sure it is shot. I would like to wait until I have some PM done on the rig (inspection, wheel bearing repack, etc.) before replacing the battery. As long as it has some charge I can hitch/unhitch and move the trailer with the power from the TV, correct?

Use a volt meter and check voltage level. Full charge is 12.7. 50% is 12.10 Lower than that is getting bad.

Really need a fully charged battery for everything to work right. Guess you could give it a try.

If kept on a charger, no reason it should not work. Three/four years is not that old.

I just experienced this scenario, my battery died in the RV, even while connected to the truck, the legs would not operate.

If the battery is not fully charged you may get the resetting breakers to kick out multiple times while operating the slides or the legs. On a good battery, with the amps listed above, everything should work fine. However, if you have a short in the battery, you may not get anything to work even connected to the truck.

Something not mentioned yet...if your RV battery is bad or too weak to keep up with applied loads, the charging part of your RV electrical system will be over tasked trying to charge your battery. Test your battery. If it's bad, replace it. Better than possibly replacing a converter. You will also be putting an extra load on your TV charging system. The alternator in a vehicle is designed to maintain voltage not as a charger.

You can always pull the battery out and take it to auto parts store and they can load test it for you.

I have a load tester I got from Amazon. You will see voltage OK, but load tester will tell you what you have under load.
