In our case it’s not that one side is lagging, it gets downright jammed. But not on anything obvious.

Venting Microwave/Range Hood Outside

The DW and I have been full time for 3 years now. Since I'm a stay-at-home spouse we tend to eat most of our meals at home. Our last RV had the range hood vented to the outside. Does anyone know if the micro/hood can be converted to vent outside? I hate to take it down if it's not even possible. I know that it would require cutting the sidewall The fantastic fan in the ceiling does a decent job but it also pulls out the cool ac air.

We just tried it and after a second or two the right side catches on something and stops as the left side continues. We stop and reverse at that point. It didn’t do that the last time we checked. I wonder if we’re slightly off-level which is skewing the mechanism.

It worked fine when we picked it up a couple of weeks ago.
Just had the repair guy take a look at the garage. It seems the right side was raising faster than the left and when that happens the motor on the faster side stops to let the other side catch up. The solution is to release the button for a sec then resume. It may be necessary to do that more than once but it wasn’t a problem at all.

In my opinion, it's not worth the trouble it will be to get it cut thru the wall and plumbed in. I spent most of a day doing this in my house, and the result is that it doesn't work as well as a dedicated range hood. It's not worth it.

I think part of the problem is that there are too many spots for air to be drawn in thru the sides and top of the microwave, so not as much as you would think comes up from the bottom to vent the cooking smells.

That's what I suspected was happening. There's a module in the storage bay on the right side of the garage that says something about a synchronizer on the cover. I suspected that was what was causing one side to stop. But on mine, the left side is so slow it almost stalls out. I do the button release and press bit to get it to work.

On Most of the micro waves to vent it outside you have to re position the motor to vent out side it should be the same as a S&B one not hat hard to do!

I think you missed the point of my comments. It's not worth doing because a microwave makes a crappy range hood. It's almost like not having anything there.

I wonder if taping the seams and gaps with aluminum HVAC tape would be beneficial then? If nothing else it would provide better airflow even if it wasn't vented outside. The upward vented exhaust could then be better removed by the ceiling vent.

No I agree with you on that point! Some work better then others the low quality in most TT & 5th wheels and MH's I don't think it's worth the time to change it.

Pass-Through Mod

I promised someone at the end of last year, (possibly mtlakejim), that I would take pictures of the modification my wife and I did on our 381TH when we first got it home late 2017. (Below freezing and could not open access doors to take pics then)

We did not like that the PVC piping was not protected, so we made a mod to protect them. I bought 1/4" wood, L-brackets, screws (some self-tapping) and I did all the fabrication. The wife likes to paint. Me, not-so-much.

De-winterized and took it out Memorial Day weekend and took pictures.
Lost some real estate; gained some peace-of-mind.

EXCELLENT job Sam!!! That really cleans up the appearance of that pass thru storage and now you don't have to worry about the cargo shifting and taking out one of those pipes!!!

Congrats on FINALLY getting her out of winter mothball!!!

PS: we have been camping here since early March! Advantage Dixie!

Thanks Jim.
Maybe this year, more likely next, we start heading south or west for the winter months and there will be no mothballing.

380th or 381

My husband and I are looking at the 380 and the 381 what are the biggest differences between the two, which of the two would most recommend, and will two Harleys fit in the garage?

We are learning so much from this forum and love seeing everyone's questions and comments.

The only difference between the 380 and 381 is the latter has a residential fridge and an inverter to support it. Otherwise the same.

You MIGHT get 2 Sportsters in the garage with some clever maneuvering, but if you have a larger Harley like an FLH, it'll be stored solo.

On our 380th, the ladder starts more than 55” off the ground. Has anyone attached a starter ladder or found one that works? I know when I’m home I use a step ladder, but when we are traveling I sometimes need to get on the roof and don’t want the hassle of carrying it along.

Ditto to Outlaws comments on the garage. We easily load our Honda 1100 and two kayaks. But it would be a challenge with a fully dressed bagger. We are looking at going to a CanAm fully dressed Spider. At that point we will have to hang/suspended above the bike. We can haul our shorter SeaDoo Spark jet ski but nothing longer. A Can Am scout is the only side by side that fits due to width limits

Has anyone mounted a wheel chock in the garage for motorcycle? Not sure how to do it. Curious if you even remove the underside panels how accessible the floor is from bottom.

I got a chock from Harbor Freight and used it on our last trip. I simply put it on the floor without bolting it down and it worked rather well. I did however have the idea of mounting it to a board about the width of the garage. Just haven't gotten around to it yet. Oh one thing the Harbor freight chock was a little tight on the front tire of our 1100 Honda.

Nice job Sam! One question however, did you put insulation in the boxes you built for the pipes or just air space?
