Ac help
We just bought a 2016 Montana 3711 FL. We have 2 AC units. We are unable to use our 6500 Honda generator without the over ride shutting off. When we just turn on the living room unit it still remains very warm and you cannot feel the AC blowing out very strong. What are we doing wrong?

Gennys have a floating ground or something. Search more on this site. Honda or Yamaha used to sell a plug to insert into the genny that worked. But they stopped selling them. You can build a plug and on this site someone has explained it.

Is this an industrial style generator? And does it have a selector switch to use 240 volts on a four wire plug connection, and if so were you connected with your four wire/50 amp shore cord? If this is not an inverter type generator, it likely would not have an issue with an EMS unit, which was not indicated on the first post. It is possible that you have an unrelated issue with that a/c unit that you will need to have checked out.

It is an inverter generator. We have a 50 amp split into 2 30s.

We have an on-board 5.5K Onan and it has no problems running our two 15K ACs with power to spare.

Understand, but you may have to find a way to see if the problem is the AC units. I was asking if you had run them successfully before plugged in.

I know you don't have an on-board, but you said your Genny was a 6500. Just showing that a 5500 can run two 15K ACs without an issue.

I have an noisy 5500 watt Generac that pulls both a/c's with no problem.6500 watts should be more than enough. You might want to verify your generator is putting out it's rated watts but also like Bob said it could be an a/c problem.

Honda also builds a 6500 generator.
DONOT use a line conditioner / surge protector with an inverter power source. Progressive recommends against this. I have damaged on using it with our inverters.
I have down loaded the EU6500 manual and on page 75 is a wiring diagram for your unit.
How have you wired your Montana to the inverter?
I would recommend using the 120V 30 amp receptacle because it would be the most cost effective one to use and provide the best power distribution for the Montana.
I would fabricate a cord with the plug for the 120V 30 Amp receptacle on one end and a standard 30 amp RV receptacle on the other end. Then use the standard 30 to 50 amp dog bone.
I don’t recommend using the two 120V 20 Amp receptacles. I believe it isn’t a good practice
Using the 120/240V 30 amp receptacle results in having to purchase some expensive items and doesn’t give you the same ability to manage your load as well so you don’t trip your inverter breaker. This is my personal opinion.

So if I understand the thread comments correctly, my Honda will not power even one of the two AC units. Hmmm....my sales guy suggested that I buy the Honda for just that purpose. What if I daisy chain two of them together? That'll get me 4400 starting watts and 4000 continuous running watts.

That's a maybe. I have two Honda's to run just one AC and other stuff. If you try to run two, first cut off all other loads and second start one and set it on 64 so it never shuts off and then try and start the other.

Thanks for the info. My sales guy told me that they have an aftermarket device that slow spins the capaciter up to speed so that you don't need that big surge initially to fire up the compressor. I'm kind of depending on that so I can run one AC on one Honda 2200 and if that doesn't satisfy our needs, fire up the second generator to run both. My new 5th wheeler should be here by the end of the month, I guess we'll know for sure then.

Hi
We have a pair of Honda 2000i with the paralleling unit we don’t have any problem running 1 AC the converter and both TV. All but two lights are LED lights and with all of them on we only pull 1.5 amps on the DC circuit for lights. The refrigerator and hot water heater do draw some DC power when in operation on gas.
The real nice thing about the Honda 2000i or the 2200I is the weight. I can pick one up in each hand and have no problem walking with them. They fit in the generator compartment and leave plenty of room for storage.
When we get a hurricane we pack up the Montana and go where ever the storm isn’t going. Then we return to the house and have stayed in the Montana until power is back on some time for a couple of months. The 2 Hondas will run all day on a tank of fuel and then run all night when you refill them. They run about 22 hours on 2 tanks full of gas. We run them until the quit out of fuel and then refill them.

No Problem with Honda EU7000is
I run my rig with a Honda EU7000is....which is the direct replacement for the EU6500is.) The main difference is the 7000 has fuel injection instead of carb.) I have no problem starting and running my two air conditioners....a 15k and a 13.5k. I am plugged in the 4-prong outlet and have the output selector switch on the 120v/240v position. It is possible that your rig is wired (improperly) with both A/Cs on the same hot leg. For these type generators, it is important that each leg load is kept below 50% of the total generator output, and less that that 30 amp breaker (per leg).
