Double Tow Sway Bar

I have a 2024 295RL and I want to tow my side by side with the tow hitch. The hitch is rated for 300 tongue and 3000 weight. I'm under 3000, but over on the tongue with the SxS all the way forward on the trailer. If I move it back at all to reduce tongue weight, I am likely going to get sway in the tow trailer. I'm wondering if anyone has used a sway bar to control sway on the tow trailer behind the fifth wheel? If I level the side by side on the trailer I can keep the tongue weight under 300 lb. But with the side by side all the way forward it's closer to 360 lb on the tongue. Thanks!!

I have no experience with double towing (not sure I ever would want to), but I do know, anything you can do to improve the safety of your rig is well worth all the effort and expense. Adding the sway control will not hurt anything. I don't know how well it will improve anything, but it definitely will not hurt anything.

Regarding your trailer weights, I'm clueless there. No advise to offer, except, I wouldn't do it if it were me.

A few other considerations….. If you add sway control to your SS you are going to increase the weight you are hanging on your 5’er. You will need to factor in the weight of the tow bars and the ball / ball mount which will be considerably heavier than a standard ball and ball mount. Additionally, 360lbs of tongue weight for a small trailer and SS sounds like a lot. I am pulling a ranger SS with an ATV on an aluminum trailer and do not have near that tongue weight

Rule of thumb for a tag along trailer is 10% of cargo weight to be tongue weight. I double tow regularly 35' Montana towing an aluminum golf cart trailer. Not quiet a heavy as you, but no issues at highway speeds. Just returned from a 2,000 mile trip.

I’m not a fan of any factory hitches that are bolted to the rear frame. I replaced the factory hitch with a professionally welded one. What ever you decide, I’d recommend weighing the loaded trailer and adhere to proper weight distribution. I wouldn’t use a sway bar to fudge the SxS further to the rear in order to reduce the tongue weight. Also, if the SxS trailer has brakes, you’ll want to add a brake controller such as the Curt 51180 Echo.

I too had a welding shop basically rebuild my factory hitch. I am confident it will not depart the trailer now. Factory hitch not so much.
