Step height not comfortable for us

Our Mountaineer entry steps are 9 & 10 inches apart which are not comfortable for us to clime. I questioned the salesman when purchasing the unit about changing them to a four step set and said others had asked and checked into it and it could not be done. Is there something available to fix this problem?
