Clicking sound, landing gear OR motor

I have a 2007 Montana, when I extend the landing legs I hear a clicking sound. I never hear the click when I'm retracting the legs. This past outing I was extending the legs to get the height to hook back to the truck and the legs were extending then I hear a click, then another then the clicking was continuous and the legs would not extend. I ended up digging the dirt down to get the right height to hook up.
My question, is it the drive motor? or is it the gear box? I was on YouTube looking and there was a comment that the click could be the drive motor safety clutch, could that be why I don't hear it when retracting?
I don't want to replace both motor and gear box if it is just one.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Ours is a 2004 the only time it clicks is when the legs are fully extended.

thanks for the reply, I have experienced the "clicking" when I'm fully extended.
This is happening only when I'm extending, I start off with approx. 4"-6" of exposed landing leg thinking there is plenty of leg in the tube to get my full extension. The odd thing is, it doesn't happen every time, I do hear a click here and there at times. This last time it just kept "ratcheting" and the legs would not extend any further.
