Heat pump

Been trying heat pump, outside temps have been in the 40’s. Thermostat set to 68 never wants to shut off very little air movement at vents ! Going to try leaving ceiling fan on overnight.

It would be helpful if you provided your year and model. I have to assume that you have a late model since you have a heat pump. Low air flow, if you have the Keystone blade vents that would explain the low air flow. I changed all of mine back to the old style louver vents. Much better air movement. As far as the heat pump. It's not meant to heat the whole trailer, it can't. I use it as a supplement to the fireplace. I also turn on the ceiling fan.

A couple of things to check for airflow; 1) remove each vent and use foil tape to seal so no air leak into ceiling space; 2) remove return air vent and make sure opening is as large as the grill. Also tape.

I found an improvement in the air flow after doing this.

I also use fireplace and ceiling fan pulling air up to circulate helps.

Your heat pump should perform well in those temps. We have found the heat pump to work quite well. It heats more slowly than the gas furnace but is effective all the same. Ours heats the whole coach well...especially the high ground, ie: the upstairs bed and bath.

DW doesn't prefer it since she feels that the HP is louder than the furnace. They seem about the same to me.

As stated, if you've made sure that you are receiving the best flow possible by making sure the ceiling vents are properly set and sealed, etc, then it should work well.

In ours I used a boroscope to check the ceiling ducts as well to make sure they were as open as they could be.

Ours has the whisper quiet install so I don't have any visibility from the interior to how the AC/HP is sealed to the roof and how well the intake/outtake vents are separated and sealed. That can also have a huge effect on air flow and efficiency. If you can, pull down the plenum cover and take a look.

Heat pump / ac vents

Glad I did some research, 2022 3121 rl the air diffusers can actually cut off air flow if turned the wrong direction! The lettering on the diffuser itself should be opposite of the ac unit! Guessing it why heat pump is heating bedroom/ bathroom more ! Yeah I know heat rises .

One additional thing I did other than the tape mentioned above is to put short sections of 1 1/4" PVC pipe inside the ducts at each vent opening. It helps keep the duct from crushing flat and restricting the air flow. In several places I noticed that the duct had flattened to an opening of less than 1" high.

How was the air flow when you were running AC? It's the same blower running the same speed when you're running heating.

Older model Dometic heat pumps don't work below 40⁰F. I'm not sure about the new Coleman units.
