Furnace- leaking/ loose heat duct-easy check
Been cold lately...we had our first frost of the year upper WI yesterday.
In the process of measuring the furnace grill so as to install an air filter of some sort, I took the grill off (six screws, direct access) and on casual inspection discovered that the heat duct connection plate at the furnace box was not secured properly, about 1/2 "loose" and moderately hot furnace output air was going into the compartment below the oven and into the adjacent compartments (drawers on the left, below the refrig on the right). No wonder we used more propane than I thought it should early this year!!
Easily fixed by properly re-securing the plate which holds the outlet duct at the furnace, and putting some duct tape around the mounting location for added security/installation. Took all of 5 minutes..
Next time you have a few moments of spare time, you might want to pull the grill and take a look at the place the duct attaches to the side of the furnace...it might have been OK at delivery, might have just vibrated loose/almost off during travel....no way to tell. Anyhow, fixed now!!
