...funny how things happen sometimes...

I took my trailer in for the fridge recall to a small RV shop close to home. Never even knew this place was there.
Started talking with the owner and looking around his shop. Small, lots of goodies around to fix stuff. I casually said 'this looks like a fun place to work'. Well...turns out his partner is ready to retire and he's looking for help. He asked if I was looking for work. Being my naturally curious self I replied 'I'm always looking for work'.
We talked a little and he wanted me to keep in touch. I did. Called him back yesterday and we talked at length - he was very forthcoming and easy to talk with. I found out rather than simply doing repair work, he also restores older coaches and rv's. I'm talking custom made cabinets and the whole works. This little bell went off in my head telling me I'm really interested in a change and this may be it.
Bottom line is, he offered me a job. I suggested a few Saturdays to see how this works out, and he thought it was a grand idea.
It's kind of a backwards way of getting into rv tech, but this sounds like it's right up my alley. I get to fix stuff and be creative building things.
He has one customer with an older coach that brought it in and said 'pimp it out'...does that sound fun or what...who knows where this adventure may lead.

Very cool story. Good luck on your adveture. We'll be in your neck of the woods this summer. Making a swing through the Lake Sates to visit friends, including best friends and former neighbors in New Brighton, MN (northside)where we used to live.

Ozzie, sounds like a real good opportunity. Just remember, don't get so busy that you forget to mod and use your unit.

Neat deal. I think it would be great for you, it's within your interest and capabilities. You are still young enough to 'switch career gears'. Good luck to you on your future.

You are the poster child for "How to Find Your Perfect Job"! Actually, when you love doing something, it's less of a job and more of a pleasure. What you have discovered is a win-win situation: great for you if your heart says it's the right thing, and great for your employer who will have discovered someone who CARES about his work.

Congratulations and good luck!

Carolyn

That is great Bruce, hope it all works out for you. Just don't get too many ideas for improvements on your own rig.

Thanks for the wishes guys...I'm running out of things to do to mine so now I'll get to work on someone elses.

A little something to add to the story...after the first meeting at his shop, both he and I went home that night and told our wife's about it.
His wife thought it was amazing that I just happened along when I did.

I've been thinking about this a lot the last few days. I've been in construction for 40 years, and I sure wouldn't miss climbing ladders set in snow or ice anymore. You don't see many carpenters doing that after the age of 50. Getting out of the weather and still working with my hands sounds wonderful.

At Branson, I was moving from Monte to Monte doing my thing, Ozzie was fixing Dennis' screen door, to shut perfectly every time.
