Galley holding tank

We have just purchased a 2003 Mountaineer 310TBS. I read all the literature before buying and really liked the idea of 76 gal. gray water holding tank. As I look underneath our unit, I only see 2 holding tanks at the rear, is the galley holding tank visable from underneath the camper. I have read several posts about the location of the dump valve for this tank, but cannot locate it under mine. I have looked every place inside I could imagine a 38 gal tank could be installed and no luck. I sent an e-mail to Keystone, they told me where the valve should be and to see a dealer for addtional help. Does anyone else have this unit that can give me a hand. What's starting to make me nervous is the 2001 & 2002 literature shows 38 gal cap for gray water. My unit was built in 11/02 and titled as a 2003 model.

Sorry can't help with where the valve is located.

But if the Mountaineer is like the Montana the 76 gallon gray water is a bit misleading.
You probably have a 38 gallon gray water tank and a 38 gallon galley tank for a total of 76 gallons.

Is it possible that you do have a 76 gal. grey water tank and no additional galley tank? On my Big Sky the 76 gallons is split between the galley and grey tanks as was posted. The grey and black valves are in the "basement" and the galley valve in near the the dump connection and beneath the kitchen area. I realize you are discribing a completely different unit, but this demonstrates that keystone doesn't necessarily place all the valving together.

Since you've not heard from anyone with that model I'll add to the above posts by saying on some of the Montanas the dump handle for the galley tank is between the wheels on the same side as the dump cap. On other models it's farther back, near the end of the slide.

Are you saying you can see your tanks? That there's no belly pan? And you see just two tanks? If you can see them do you see pipes coming into a single tank from both the bathroom sink, shower, and the kitchen sink?

Our Montana has a bellypan and we cannot see the tanks. Is yours the same? Ours also advertised 76 gallon gray water capacity but it's actually two 38-gallon tanks. One is for the bathroom sink and shower and the other is for the kitchen sink. Yours is a 2003 model. Our 2003 was built in July, 2002. We ordered it new and took delivery that same month.

I do not have a belly pan. I can see the black tank and one gray tank side by side toward the rear of the unit. These two tanks are exactly the same size. If there is a second "galley tank" it would have to be inside. I cannot find any second tank or even a place large enough to install one inside the camper. I have checked all around the wheels and the slide, no valve handle.

sreigle,

I see in your sig you have a 05 F-250. How do you like it? I am about to take delivery of an 05 F-250 CC 4x4 6.0 to replace my 04 that Ford is buying back. I got to drive a 05 for a day to try it out. Seemed to ride much better and turn much better. I picked it out two weeks ago, supposed to have the paperwork comleted by next week. I hope they have fixed the hiccups.

Camp4fun, we love this F250. With the new frontend and frame it does, indeed, turn much sharper and rides even better than our '03 F350. Ours is the same as yours, from what you described. What color did you get?

We've had ours 18 days and have put just under 2,500 miles on it so we've had a chance to check it out. No hiccups in this one. Great driving truck. And it is rated to two 2,000 lbs more than the F350 we traded and has a 1,000 lb higher GVWR and 3,000lb higher GCWR.

It's a very smooth driving truck. I think you're going to like it. Can't wait until we tow with it but that won't be until January. The rear springs are wider, at 3 inches, and unlike the earlier Off Road FX4 packages this one has just one shock per rear wheel but they're Rancho shocks.

Good luck with yours. I'm really enjoying this one.

sreigle, Dark Stone w/ Arizona Beige accent. Lariet, tan leather interior. Did not get FX4, they made me pick one off the lot so I had to choose between FX4 & sliding rear window. I can't wait though, I have heard nothing but good things about the 05'.

Sounds really nice, camp4fun! I really like that Dark Stone color. Ours is white with the same Arizona Beige accent. Same interior.

I'm beginning to think mine got caught up in the 2002 to 2003 model change and landed somewhere in the middle. (2002 spec'd with only one tank) I'm pretty sure I only have one gray water tank. I wonder if Keystone can or will do anything about it, or if it's even worth the trouble. Since I'm the second owner, do they have any obligation in this matter?

To tell the truth, Camp4fun, for us it would not be worth the trouble. The only water going into the galley tank is from the kitchen sink. So, dishwasher and the odd amounts from water glasses, etc. I'd much prefer to take maybe 20 of the gallons capacity from the galley tank and add it to the other gray tank.

On our 305FKS it's about even with the kitchen sink (about 4 feet aft) and on the "driver's side". The rod comes through the main frame with the handle outside the frame but not through the slide wall (about the middle of the slide). The best way to find it is to get down on all fours about even with the sink (yours is in the middle of the TT ??) and look for the handle. It's easier with the slide out if it's behind it.

For those wanting more capacity, I've read about folks tying the two gray water tanks together with PVC pipe so they are really one big tank.

I installed a terminating slide valve on my Montana.

With this valve closed, I can open both the galley and bathroom gray tank drains to allow the waste water to equalize between the two tanks and thus share their capacity.
