Finally I had one good day where the weather allowed me to tinker with the 5er.
It took me about 2 hours start to finish to install a hard wired surge guard. I ended up purchasing the Progressive model EMS-HW50C with remote display. After removing the access panel in the basement I mounted the main unit directly behind the basement TV. There was plenty of wire to cut and splice the box in. I'm undecided where to permenantly mount the remote display so at the moment it's in the basement as well.
Thanks to Jim (NCFISHERS) for some good advise with this installation.

Any pictures? I wish we had an access panel in the basement. The only access we have is at the converter on the back wall of the toilet room.

NCFISCHER tapped into my main cable under the steps to the bedroom and ran an extension into my front compartment where I have my surge guard and autoformer installed. Works well.

Thanks, George. Does your 3400 have the converter in the wall near the steps? Mine is in the toilet room, high on the wall, and I can find no wiring under the steps. I've hinged the fresh air return and we use the area under the steps for shoe storage. Thus I can easily see under there. No wires. Same when I look from the basement storage side after removing the surround on the water connection center. Mine must be in a different place. Ours is an early 2007 model.

John, The bathroom and bedroom area in your 3665 is the same as our 3465. I installed the surge guard remote display in the hall next to the other switches. It has worked good there, convent and easy to see.

I have some photos on the link but didnt do a good job of showing the location. Our converter is located to the right side of the entry door about floor level as you walk in. That makes the back side directly behind the basement wall, curb side where the outside tv mounting bracket is located. The wall panel is approx 30" square and easly removed with 6 self tapping screws. The supply cable had a rather large loop that allowed me to add the box without any additional wire.

Ok. Since the cable to the remote has that large telephone cable type connector on the end maybe I can route it out from behind the switch panel so I wont have to drill a seperate hole?

John, My remote display is recessed type and is different from what you have. Your idea of bringing the wire out by the switch panel should work.

I mounted mine near the floor by the door, under my closet. This way After I plug in I can go to the door and look at the display and know all is good with out going in the trailer.

Steve, I mounted mine behind the fuse/circuit breaker panel. Although it's a tangle of wires, there was enough room to bolt it to the floor and enough of the lead in wire that I didn't have to add any. From there, It was easy to mount the LED read out on the wall as it only uses a telephone type wire.

One thing to keep in mind is the display on the remote at night. The Progressive EMS display cycles all the time. So at night it appears that it is flashing. Not a problem if you close the bedroom door at night but we typically do not.

Tom, thanks. Do you have a generator? If so, how do you bypass the autoformer when running the generator?
