Progress

We have been using the household sweeper more than we have in the past, because of our remodeling and repairs. It is a Sears, and is a nice one for our use.
We had a broken latch, so when you hook up the long hose attachment, the handle would fall and hit my head, or back. Been broke for about a year, we have dealt with it. The last time it 'Beaned me' was the turning point. I just copied the model number, got on the computer on Sears' parts site, entered the Model number, got an 'exploded view' of all the parts, picked out the part number, a few clicks and entries later, the part was on the way. We got it 3 or 4 days later, it is on and...Wow! I used it today, wincing as I thought the handle would get me, when I remembered I fixed it.
Remember way back when we drove to the sweeper repair place, the guy would look at the sweeper we had to bring with us, go back and on the shelf he might have the part, if not, sometimes he would take a part off a sweeper he had sitting around, and sell us that one.
Remember, this is back when they had customer service.
Then later on, we would go to the parts house and they would have those film slides, 'Fishes', I think they called them. They would look through a bunch of small boxes and find the right 'Fish' film, and, if it wasn't too scratched up to read, he would find the part. A week or two later, they would call and we would drive down and pick up our part.
With all the bad things about today's processes and ways of doing business, they really have made some nice improvements.
I think my part was under $10.00, I couldn't have driven to town and back for that...
I guess that's progress.

Ozz maybe progress maybe not. When you went into town and did your purchases you interacted with the service provider (person = job). These are now non existant because of the internet and its self service approach. I long for the old days.
