We have enjoyed all of Alexander McCall Smith's books about life in Botswana with the central character, Precious Ramotswe. It isn't heavy reading, but entertaining. Currently, we are nearing the end of The Miracle at Speedy Motors.
For history buffs, Savage Kingdom, a historical insight to the establishment of the colony at Jamestown, covered life in early Virginia and the political climate in England that produced the effort. It can be a bit cumbersome at times because it quotes some passages from original letters and documents.

Just finished a book by Gay Courter, copywrited in 1982, MIDWIFE. It is historical fiction following a young Jewish woman from Czarist to New York's lower east side. It is a fascinating story and explores the plight of Russian Jews during the pograms that drove so many to America. If you can't find it in the library, I saw it on Amazon.com, both used and republished.

I've found a series by Janet Evanovich. She has about 12 books out that are mystery/fiction and they are quite humorous, too. I oculdn't get them in the proper order to read, so I'm just skipping around reading the ones the library had. Right now, I'm reading "Seven Up". They are called the Stephanie Plum novels. Quite entertaining.

The Stephanie Plum series is hysterical ... light and will always give you a good laugh. "Fearless Fourteen" just came out ... can't wait to read it.

I read Last Lecture by Randy Pausch and came away with his remarkable courage but an absence of a faith or higher being in his life. While that is not judgement, it's just what I sensed. It maybe my own personal bias that reached such a conclusion.
New out is Escape from Andersonville, fiction by non other than Gene Hackman. I have read a few history nonfictions on Andersonville and so far this novel is good with factual background. Dennis
