Bike rack hitch

I've got a 3720RL and just bought a bolt on bike rack hitch and it's designed as a top mount but the bumper is too close to the body and does not have the clearance to bolt top side. It mounts ok on the bottom side but I've seen some comments about that not being ok. Does anyone have a hitch that works better on their rigs? Should I consider having the one I bought welded on?

I had a bumper bolt on hitch with 2 bikes on it.

It ripped the bumper off, take it back....

I like receiver style. If your going to put a receiver on the back of your trailer at least tie it into the frame and not the bumper. Better yet tie it into frame with a croissant member made of heavy square tubing about 3’ back then replace the thin bumper with heavy gauge square tubing and tie into that too. A bit overkill for just bikes but it will do the job

I am actually surprised more folks don’t carry their bikes on truck receiver using a drop down to get them below tailgate and hinged carrier so they can be dropped out of hitches way when coupling/uncoupling. We did that before we got the hybrid toy hauler

Bumper bolt on will work for one bike and thats about it. Very weak.

It there a kit to mount to the frame or is it a custom fabrication?

Here is what worked for me: I bought a bolt on receiver hitch for my square back bumper, added an offset receiver adapter to get the receiver higher, then added a receiver bike rack that holds two bikes. It is very secure and stable. The two bikes are now far enough off the ground to not risk the rack hitting the ground when entering/exiting steep driveways and it's a nice height to taking off and on the bikes.
