Millcreek Rally

Well guys ;;the slow down in campers is here in millcreek .. yesterday they had about 15 % of the camp full .i talked to a couple here for a week and they said last week you could shoot a gun and never hit anything;;since yesterday they got in about 20 rigs but that is nothing for a campground of over a 1000 spaces,,glenn knows we are always in the last row and we only have 1 unit between us and the lake and they are 5 sites back and have lake views;;;bring anything you want to eat or drink as they only have a IGA about the size of a 3 stall garage..;;sailer

Thanks John for the headsup on the grocery situation.

Cannon fire, don't they do that over at the Fort a couple of times a day??

The big thing is the firewood is so green the leaves are still on it ,, bring dry 1x2 ---14" long or shorter as the pan is only 16" across and there wood is 17"
' long so it hangs over the pan bring 1x2 1x3 or anything dry but it is not fire wood ,,,it is blocking if they ask but when they ask if you have fire wood say NO NO;;;
i have to burn 5 pieces of my wood to 1 of theres so put it in the basement and forget it ,,,pine, oak, ash , birch , anything dry, and lumber, not logs;;;sailer

We are still hoping to come for Saturday and Sunday (Friday night/Saturday). However, I've sent two emails and the campground hasn't replied. We read that if you get in after 10 at night that you can't get into the campground. I'm sure we'll be later than that, leaving from Milwaukee area about 4:30. I guess I'll have to call them.

Yes rames41 you go to easteren time just before Escanaba MI . then you have the bad highway about gladstone for 12 to 15 miles as we were down to 45 to stop it from bucking but then its good till cut river as you have a 4.6 mile detour , as the bridge is not done, its only a year now ,, then on to the bridge , but all of the high way is 55 so you can't travel 65 as mich has realy steped up the patrol. the bridge will cost you $6.00 each way but that life ;;sailer

Grocery situation is as John states. Store is about 5 miles away on the other side of Mack City. We have seen units sitting on the side of the road waiting for the park to open next morning.

Also, John, I must register my absolute amazement at the lack of campers at Mill Creek. As many who have been there in summers of years past know, they actually have/had? a list of sold out areas in there CG that they kept updated. Getting near the water in July/Aug was virtually impossible in years past. Sounds like a huge downturn in RVing there.

They do have a "sold out" list on their website. 4th of July is fairly full. No listings on our dates.

Highly unusual, Rich. Over the years, I have monitored that sold out list (I have it bookmarked) and by this time of the year it is typically a very lengthy list - especially the 30 amp FHU on the lake, which usually is booked for the entire month of July and most of Aug. This is a VERY small list for this time of year.

I agree Dave.. We have not encountered a full or even mostly full C.G in our travels for over a year.. We are now at a very nice and popular C.G that our local group had been coming to for years in this time frame and it is maybe 60 % occupied. There are plenty of spaces in this group area. Note that The Elkhart Fairgrounds now does not have a rally in front of ours. Same as happened last year. On our 2500 mile trip this month we never saw a full campground and had no problems with last minute reservations. We stopped at Loretta Lynn's Ranch In Tenn and folks told us we would never get a camping spot and we had no trouble at all with a Full hook, 50 amp, pull through. Same in Branson, Mo..every C.G had openings, every hotel, Motel had vacancies. We had no problem at Mill Creek C.G booking a couple of early days for the rally.

Tourism is still way down..It will be awhile..

I agree, Rich. Some RV organizations are touting a rise in RVing. I think gorving.com is one of them - not sure. I just am not seeing anything that looks like a bottoming out or leveling off of RVing activity. Looking at the Mill Creek list is actually kind of alarming to me.

I must ask that noone brings wood to the cg. They have agreed to donate two nights campfires at the group fire ring, we can't ask for more than that. We can burn their wood the other night if we want to, it won't cost much then.
Please be respectful of their regulations and don't bring any type wood!

Steve, A quick update: I just bought a new book of matches so I should be ready for setting up the nightly campfires. If need be I also have a few road flares too.

Scott..The new book of matches is a good idea. We just returned from a local FCRV rally where I was the "camp fire guy" The first night I got the fire all ready to go and of course I do not have a match. I asked the about 20 folks who were standing around "who has a match" and nobody had one. It took 5 mins to come up with a match. I did not live that down for the entire camp out.
