POE Point of Entry scales
Anybody ever have to go thru a scales house when entering a state with your 5th wheels? Also some truck have "Not for hire" or "Private Coach" on the doors do you need to have that on your truck? All the traveling I have done I never went thru a scale house but I never had a trailer this long. I was always under 30 feet.

Only commercial vehicles are required to enter the scales/inspection station. Length of vehicle has nothing to do with it. Been through them MANY times during 20 years of trucking.

:edit - Somebody correct me if i'm wrong on the info below. The little voice in my head is remembering a couple assembly bills that passed raising weight requirements.
In California it's a really strange law that is way behind the times. Technically we must stop at scales when we aren't pulling an RV if we meet the conditions below. Of course I've never stopped and others on this forum and other forums have been given an odd look or waved through when they did stop. As I recall, when pulling an RV there's no need to stop but I can't find that info at the moment.
--snip--
DO THESE VEHICLES HAVE TO STOP AT THE SCALES?
PICKUP -- It depends on the gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR), unladen weight, and bed of the truck.
GVWR under 11,500 pounds, unladen weight of less than 8,001 pounds, and open box-type bed not exceeding 9 feet in length -- NO.
GVWR 11,500 pounds or more, unladen weight 8,001 pounds or more, or not equipped with an open box-type bed not exceeding 9 feet in length -- YES.
Discussion: According to CVC Section 471, pickups are a motor truck by definition, which is required to stop at the scales per CVC Section 2813. However, all California weigh stations have signs stating: "No Pickups." So, if a vehicle meet the definition of pickup in CVC Section 471, it is not required to stop at the scales because of the signs stating: "No Pickups." If the pickup has a GVWR of 11,500 pounds or more, an unladen weight 8,001 pounds, not equipped with an open-box type bed not exceeding 9 feet in length, or the pickup bed has been removed and a utility body or flat bed has been mounted, then it no longer meets the definition of pickup in CVC Section 471; it is then a "motor truck" under CVC Section 410 and required to stop at the weigh stations.

Correct so far on last post! Signs don't describe pickup clearly but as posted above its a weight issue! At Cottonwood Ca Sales include, rented vehicles for moving (UHAUL) must stop. You are bound by your State Law where you reside! Most States have agreements for visitors. I stop if I am not towing at all open scales. I always get waived past. Only got cited one time to learn. When towing I am exempt. Strange laws here in Ca for sure.

Just another reason I don't tow in CA. Never had an issue in any other state. Some states the weigh station signage specifically excludes RV's just to avoid confusion.

Only place we stopped upon entering Cal, was the Ag Inspection Station and our GCWR is over 26K.

I do not do California. Plus they limit my speed to 55mph.
Once, in like '96, I got waved into a scale in Florida. Did not want to weigh me, wanted to check my fuel for dye. I was OK, so on I went.

Never been waived in or been in a weigh station. I suspect they would have caught up to me if they had really wanted me to stop.
