Cold showers

We camp a lot with no sewer hook up. When we take a shower we valve off the water so we don't fill up the grey tank. When we turn the water back on it is freezing cold until it warms up. I think this is a common problem and has anyone found a workaround for it.

We haven't had that problem since the water heater hot side check valve went bad and I removed it.

I use a recirculating pump in the stickhouse and always wondered how well this would work in a trailer. I would probably put the pump on a switch, to only run it prior to stepping in the shower or when the water needs to be hot real quick but in the bathroom, the water gets hot pretty fast, so we really don't need it there. However, DW agrees the kitchen faucet takes a long time to heat up. Unfortunately, the cost of the pump is too high to justify installing one of these right now.

It's interesting to consider but the motor needs 110v to run. Maybe there's a 12v version.

Turn on the water in the shower and, as you are waiting for it to get warm, let it run into a bucket. You now have a bucket of clean water...water the house plants, wash some clothes, or since it's clean, dump it outside. We do that in the stick house.

X2... this is what we do. You can also use that water to flush with/add water to the bowl.

This is from modmyrv.com; http://www.modmyrv.com/2009/04/12/rv...y-check-valves . We haven't tried this yet, but it's on our list of "mods". That cold blast in the shower gets old pretty quick.

From what someone explained a couple of years ago it has to do with the variation in pressure between hot and cold water. The only "fix" I know of for sure is to point that nozzle away from me for a couple of seconds before getting under it.

Fixed the problem. You need a positive shut off valve for the shower head. Installed one and problem solved water temp always stays the same.
