Bit the bullet today - 881U

Went down to the local ATT store to get a wireless card, Sierra 881. After a long time of trying to get it to work, the manager tried an Sierra 881U. I'm sitting here with the laptop, watching Tv, anxiously awaiting our departure tomorrow morning for our trip. The 881U seems to be working just fine. I like the fact that I can put an antenna on it, and if I want, use it on another computer.

I know! I know! I should have gone EVDO, but I didn't. I am an ATT subscriber and I wanted to keep the billing all in one place. It's easier to keep up with and since it's draft, I don't have to do anything but balance the check book. It is the 3rd Generation (3G) and ATT is getting more and more 3G cells. I'm on 3G here at the stick house.

Anyhow, that's my story and I'm sticking to it.

Congrats Wayne.
Love these air cards. They are the greatest thing to come along since Al Gore invented the Internet. We have had ours over 4 years and don't ever want to be without.
Now get yourself a router so that you and the DW can get online at the same time. Since it also puts out a weak WiFi signal I have even let friends parked close by use it. At MOC rallies some even come sit at my picnic table just to get online. YES, it is password protected which I do change frequently.

Wayne,
Pick up one of the Wilson dual band Cell antennas. Shop around for a good price. They can give you 10 to 15 dBm of gain and more if you get them higher in the air. For the price they are worth it.
Cheers,

Glenn,
I do plan on getting a router. I'll need it for the stick house and on the road.

John,
Antenna is "down the road," after this trip.

Stiles,
I did just the opposite of what Alex recommended. Go figure! I always stub my toes that way. Time will tell.

I will have time to order from Alex on the next purchase. I was pushed for time on th decision of this one. Actually, I was sitting at the house thinking of how I lost a day and was way behind on packing, when DW said, "I though you were going to get one of those things for the computer?" Now who am I to argue with DW, so off I went and decided on ATT because that is who our cellular and all other stuff is through. DW came through again. Don't then know that if they suggest something we are going to do it.
