I bought a Magic Chef Ice Maker from them a year ago and love it. Those things can spit out the ice cubes.

Did a search and Target is supposed to have them (maybe just mail order) for $169.99.

Could you tell me how the water supply is fed into it?

Thanks

Wayne,
We have the same unit as well as the one from camping world. The water is poured into the unit in the same door as the ice is removed. Water is below the ice bucket.

Sunrisetosunset,
We feel that it is definately worth it - look at our photos, we love ice! We actually store our icemaker in the cabinet under the sink. Plenty of room to push it all the way back and out of the way. When we need to make ice - about every 3 days, we just pull the machine forward (still in the cabinet),plug into a nearby recepticle, raise the lid, add water, and push start. We have the first 12 (or so) cubes, medium size, within 14 minutes and then every 14 minutes there after. We let the machine run about 2 hours, collect the ice in a zip top bag and put it in the freezer. Turn off the machine, unplug it, and slide it to the back of the cabinet until next time. Much more convenient than ice trays and more freezer space which is very imporant to us.

When we bought the ice-maker, I stored it in the basement on the curb side. That became it's home. I clear space for the ventilation before I use it and just run it there. Just enough room to access the ice tray and add water. If I'm really anxious to build a bucket of ice, I move it over to the laundry chute access so I can offload it without going outside.

Mine resides in the front closet where the W & D would normally be. On the floor. I have an SPT ice maker. I think there all just about the same with different names on them....

Hmmm! Methinks I'll keep the Coleman 7 eday cooler. Buy a bag of ice once in a while, fill the zip lock bag and put it in the freezer - and repeat the process once a week. Let's see. $1.29 10# bag of ice times 52 = $67 a year, but I'm not full timing. I'm going to have to really sit back and consider the ice maker. Actually, I'll tell the wife about it and let her decide. Thanks for the information. Another toy!!!

The sticker on the machine says "ice in 7 minutes." It is no lie. This thing will spit out the ice fast.

Wayne,
If you go to the beach, desert, or anywhere heat and plan on any liquid refreshments at all it pays for itself quickly. At our normal usage, we are in the rig between 1-2 months total time a year, I figured the ice maker paid for itself the first year we got it. We like it so well, we now own two, one for the rig and one for the house. We do have the in-door ice maker on the fridge, but this little thing runs circles around it when it comes to making ice. They will make more than 20# a day if you keep bagging it.

We have one of these portable icemakers as well. Ours is a Haier that we purchsed at our local BJ's warehouse for $129.00. Last time I looked they still had a few. We bought it for the RV, but use it in the house if we are entertaining. I enlarged the cabinet I had built to cover the water inlet inside the coach. I'll try to get pictures up in a couple of days.

I like the idea of no physical water hook up as with the Magic Chef model. Searching the internet I found that there are quite a few portable ice makers, and they vary in price.

Since this thread was started with "Magic Chef," and except for where indicated in the thread by postings, I understand that each of you is satisfied with your brand. If there is anything different to that, please let me know either here or by PM. We will probably jump out this weekend and pick one up for the next trip.

Thanks all.

New Toy! New Toy!
One of the "new toys," is off the "do I want this?" list.

We went to that French department store, Tarrgget, and picked up the Magic Chef for $169.99. Not much of a bargain, but now I can test all of your postings as to how good this machine is, or is not!

Right now it's sitting on the counter in accordance with the instructions to let it sit for 4 hours to let refrigerant settle. Is that what y'all did? When you travel with it, do you wait when you get to the RV site for a few hours before you use it?

Curious minds wish to know.

Have you given it a try yet?

I let it sit overnight and am now blending my first concoction. :-)
