2000 Montana 5th wheel slide cable

Hello, thank you for having me.

I just bought a 28ft 5th W. Hoping to winterize, but slide out cable under trailer is frayed bad. I am freaking out.

Can anyone help guide me?

I need to familiarize myself with cable assembly mounting points with intensions of replacing cable.

Is there any service information which I could reference available?

The cable which is bad runs under kitchen and dining area where cable is above bottom plastic panel covering underneath camper in two locations the width of slide out.

Any help would be appreciated greatly.

Doug.

There aren't too many members still around with a 2000 Montana. Do you know what Model you have? Does it have opposing slides (i.e. kitchen and dining) or just one slide for the dining and living areas? Hopefully one of our old timers will see this and help.

Hello Carl thank you for your reply.

Our fifth wheeler is a 2850rk.

Two sliders. Larger one includes dinette and hide a bed. Second slider is queen bed on upper level at front of trailer.

I have a 2002 3280RL. Assuming yours is hydraulic like mine, those cables are uses to keep the slide square when being extended or retracted. I've attached the Dewald Manual. It shows the cable diagrams. You'll probably need to have cables fabricated since no Dewald parts are available. You 'll also need to drop the coroplast that covers the underbelly.

We had a 3295rk it was a 2002. I believe the cable is used to help keep the two ends in sequence with each other. You should also have the gear packs under each side which carry’s most of the load. I never had an issue with the cable but it might be prone to rubbing on the steel ,especially where it goes through the braces for the overhang of the floor past the frame. I also believe it is a BAL system so it should have a manual online. If I can find it I will post a link.

Drifty, thanks so much for your reply.

Interesting. It does have a hydraulic ram, going to look at it today a little closer. Would it have a gear pack knowing there is a cylinder?
