Wallpaper border question - Montana Owners Club

I know a number of MOC members have taken down wallpaper and replaced.

So, my question is: What did you do about the molding strips that come down in the corners and cover the wallpaper border that is there??

Did you remove the molding strips while replacing wallpaper border and then put them back up to??

OR, did you just paper over them??

Or, did you do a lot of trimming??

Carol, I just sliced right behind that strip and pulled it out. Then I took a butter knife and slid it behind there over the new paper and rubbed it with the edge. Didn't take that trim down because I was afraid that I would mess something else up. Kathi

Mine was like Pam's. It only came up to the trim, did not cover it. But Kathi sounds like she figured it out for borders that cover the trim.

My trim is OVER the wallpaper. I did not want to take the trim down either, but I did find this cute paper in Shipshewanna, and we are going back in a few weeks, and I might have to break down and get it (for bathroom).

For those that just covered the existing paper, are there any little "ridges" where you can see the paper beneath??

In our other 5th wheel I put new border over the old in the rear kitchen, a different one in the bathroom and left the one in the living room as is. You would never be able to tell there was anything underneath.

We have just returned from our last trip where there was little to no phone reception so I haven't been able to go on line. Anyway, having been a "paperhanger" for 7 years, I can tell you, that if you hang a new border over the existing one, (which really is not recomended), it will totally depend on the new boarder as to whether or not it will show through. If it is a thin paper without much pattern and just vinyl coated, it may. If the new is a solid vinyl and has lots of pattern and texture, it very likely will not show. Make sure you use a "vinyl on vinyl" adheisive if you want the new to stay on! Good Luck, Let us know how it comes out.

Carol,

I just pulled off the border in my old unit. Came off easy. The only thing was I was not ready to add another border and the adhesive on the wall, was, well you did not want to have your clothing come in contact with it.

If you are going to add a new border the same size or larger I see no problem with just removing the old border.

I am still thinking this over. Also want to stop at some of the local places and see if I can find other paper than what I found in Indiana.

By the way, for any of you who just LOVE what is already onboard, they sell a pretty good replica of my border at Wallyworld! Only around those grapes or whatever, it is all cut out, so, it has a little bit of a scalloped look?? I had a good laugh! They did not have that many choices and one of them matched what I already have! HA HA

We agree with Bob n Pam. We ran the border right up to the corner mold, not over it. The factory paper was done the same way. We really like our new border much better than the factory supplied. Someone really needs to keystone's designers at times.

Does anyone have an easy solution to removing the glue. My wife has tried several of the sprays at Wally World and it seems to take forever to get a small area clean.

wrmelton, I just put the paper right over what I took off. I went to Home Depot and got this paste in a bottle that had a roller on top of it. It is called Borders Over Wallpaper. By Golden Harvest it is a one step thing. It is self priming/sizing. Took me about 20 minutes. Was the easiest thing that I have ever used. Kathi

I used mineral spirits but it still took some work. I tryed goo gone but it was to slow.

Hey Kathi I'm going to get some to see if it will re stick my border in the bathroom at the stick house. Sounds really easy.

Parrothead, I was really surprised how well it worked. It was about $5. and I still have 7/8ths of the bottle left. I really was impressed with it. Let me know how it works. Kathi

Well, I have purchased the new border, only the original is about 1/4 inch larger, which means I am gonna have some sticky walls when I take it off??

fla native, how was it you got the paper off?? warm water?? anyone else that has input, please jump in here!

Carol, I had sticky walls too. But my paper was larger then the old border. What I did the first time was took some of that Goof Off. They call it the ultimate remover!!! Got it at Lowes but Home Depot has it to. I read the label and it says it is save for walls and wallpaper. It does say to test it first. I did and nothing bad happened. I just liked the wider paper better. But it did a really nice job taking the sticky stuff off. It comes in spray and liquid where you use a rag to put it on.
