Blackwater dump valve
I have an 09 2980RL Anniversary Edition, and the dump valve for the Blackwater is leaking when closed. The Handle (cable) will not fully seat when pushed in, so I'm thinking, or hoping, that there may be some "paper" caught in the valve. If I find that this is not the case, can just the valve be replaced, or do I have to replace the valve and cable as an assembly?

Black tank valves are the worst. Mine did the exact same thing after the second trip in it! It is most likely paper particles jammed in the grooves of the valve. Because my crowd flushes so much paper and it would be a regular repair I just installed another valve at the hose connection to prevent the leaking. Problem solved permanently! And no getting dirty.

I think this will also allow you to close off the end and open both grey tanks thus allowing both tanks to equalize and give you more capacity when boondocking.

Yes, they share capacity plus you get the additional capacity of whatever the dump pipes hold.

A little help to keep the valve operating properly. Use water softner in your black and grey tanks. I buy the liquid kind at wally world and dump a cap full in each tank before using them. This helps in 2 ways, keeps everything loose and from sticking in the tank, plumbing, and dump valve. I too had a valve that got really tough to open and close due to TP hanging up at the valve. After a few treatments with the water softner, everything came loose and valve started working properly again. No problems since using this trick. Powedered water sofner will work as well and, is a little cheaper.

Michael,
I will have to try the water softener, my black tank valve is also not going in all the way but I do not know if it is leaking. We are hard piped to the dump drain pipe and I do not want to take apart to see at this time. I hope your suggestion to use water softener works.

Look in the laundry soap department. It's hard to find but it's there. Most of the time it's on the bottom shelf. How do I know? My wife showed me.

Any update on the problem, Chuck? Just wondering if it was the valve or if it was something else! Inquiring minds want to know!
