Power Steering Coolers?
Power Steering Coolers? Any thoughts? Who has one, notice any difference with it installed?

They come with most factory towing packages. I do not see a real benefit to having it. Your steering is the same with or without towing anything. So I can't see how it would overheat in a towing situation. We have it on ours, but it came with it. The only other belief is that it would keep fluid cooler when I snow plow, the constant low speed turning, backing etc: you are always turning in and out of spots,no where near as when you are parking your trailer, that is only a couple turns, and you are done.(hopefully)

Have never had a issue with power steering over heating. But I have never owned a Truck with a Snow plow, Snow is a four letter word I don't want to live around Snow. As for heating up I have never had a problem with the Duramax heating up, and now the newer models have been improved so much, if driven properly heating up shouldn't be a problem. GBY...

I just saw a mention of it in a towing guide. Did some more research on the net to find it is more used in race cars

My idea on a power steering cooler is a "GOT YA", if I were driving in a road race where I'm stearing as much as they do I could say yes to a install, but your not I think it's a waist of good money.

Ive been a mechanic for over 30 years and have not seen a case that the pump burned up without another problem tied to it. It wont hurt to have it. I just do not think it necessary. I work on class 8 trucks and very few of them have steering coolers,I would think the demand them are much higher than what we see towing RV's.

TrucDoc - please correct me if I'm wrong but don't the newer Dodge trucks (3rd Gen at least) use the power steering pump to 'charge' the power brake assist. Given the additional load from that, I do know that my 08 3500 does have a power steering cooler - but it also has the tow package. There are 10s of thousands of automobiles out there with power steering and now coolers on them.

I've not heard that but am curious to hear what TrucDoc has to say. I'm not aware of my '07 with tow package having a power steering cooler. How would I tell?
