Wyoming/SD state parks

We will be traveling from the Denver area, with our grandson, the beginning of June for about 7-10 days. We will be heading north on I25 into Wyoming and than I90 east towards the Black Hills. We prefer staying at state parks when possible. Any suggestions? Thanks

Dick, Spearfish SD has a great city park and is really beautiful. When you are up around Devil's the road that runs thru Hulette Wy is good and the little restaurant there has great food. Been there a few times for breakfast and lunch.

If you get a late start in the day leaving Denver. In Wheatland, WY there is a city park that is a free park with 30 amp power at the sites with a dump with water. There is a drop box if you would like to offer a donation. Great city park for an overnight. Most people I met there would leave $3 to $5 to cover their use. Wheatland is between Cheyenne and Douglas. Joe

Custer State Park is a great camping experience and close to Mt. Rushmore, Crazy Horse and a lot of the other sites that make the Black Hills our special place where we eventually want to get back to when the Montana goes mobile next year.

I second Custer State Park and be sure to all yourself lots of time to see the whole area.. We are there at least a week each year for the past several years and still haven't seen it all.

If you run out of steam around Wheatland, WY, there is Glendo State Park just north of Wheatland and just east of the interstate. Last time I was there it was a little primitive, but it worked as an overnight stop. Once in South Dakota, Custer State Park was nice.

Thanks all. It looks like we will be opting for a private cg in Sundance, Wy. It's right near Devil's Tower and has a pool, cable & WIFI. We can also use it as a base camp for SD.

Devil's Tower has a KOA at the base of it. We stayed there a couple of nights exploring this interesting formation. It's right off I-90. Although not a state park, since Devil's Tower is a national monument, I think it's worthy of exploration.

The Black Hills have a number of state park campgrounds, each one more beautiful than the next, but because the area is such a tourist attraction, it may be difficult finding a site. If you have a timetable, I'd recommend reservations.

Mountain View RV Park in Sundance, Wy is where we are trying for. It is also off I90 & US 14 near the Tower. For me KOAs are over priced for what you get, just my opinion, but thanks.
