whats behind that front cap.
Ever wonder why the front closet is so cold? well here is a picture why. less the fiber glass
If I could have told the mechanic to put a higer R rating under that cap I would have, but after thought is always to late for me.
that little box is the shoe shelf in side the closet very flimzy and light weight material. so if you ever have the cap off put more instalation in there.

When we had our front end "beefed up" extra insulation was installed when they reattached the cap. Big difference from that which was originally in the front end at manufacture!

We installed very heavy aftermarket insulation. All of Joyce's clothes that aren't helping to insulate the basement . Sorry, couldn't resist that. Thanks for the heads up. If and when we have it off, more insulation will be going in.

Just to let folks know that not all rigs have the problem of no insulation in the front cap. Ours had ample insulation. And Doug Henry's old rig also had plenty of insulation. We happened to be visiting Doug and Sharon when he was dealing with some "frame flex" problems and had the front cap removed. Hopefully everyone else had the necessary insulation.
I haven't had the cap off of our new rig so can't speak to whether or not it has insulation. Until evidence to the contrary I believe our new rig has all normal insulation.
Also it would appear from the pictures that Don posted that there may have been insulation installed at one point. There appears to be remnants of fiberglass insulation clinging to the "shoe" box. But there certainly should be insulation and there is none. Good luck. Dennis

had to replace the pin box assembly I riped it up prity good when we were comming back from our Colorado trip it happened on I 40 near the california border, I hit a depression in the road and the Ram got air then it was the Monties turn. they both flew very nice BUT its the landing that they didnt like.
Oh yes the cost was something I hoe nobody ever has to pay in full.
the pin box and galley tank came to 11K parts and labor less my deductable.

I always wondered why the clothing in the closet was always so cold when I put it on when RVing in cold weather. Worse than that, is what happens to the front cap and the rest of the rig in warm weather. With the A/C in the rear of my unit, no wonder the front BR is so warm. It's no fun putting on hot clothing when it's hot either.
I guess the assumption is that the clothing IS the insulation for the front of the rig. It kinda makes the rest of the insulation on the walls, ceiling and floor pretty useless if there's that much in the front that has NO insulation.
I am in awe of this M.O., but the RV industry will never cease to amaze. I guess they are trying to save us some pin weight, by making our furnace and A/C useless. Oh well, they just charge us for installing these conveniences, it doesn't mean they are gonna work very well to do their jobs. After they sell their rigs to us it becomes our problem. I just wish I knew about it.

Art,
Before we jump to all kinds of conclusions it might be helpful to actually look under the cap to see what is there. I have not yet looked under the cap of my new rig but when I looked under the cap of my old rig it was fully insulated.
Just a suggestion. Dennis

Two facts for me to consider... There is no question that the temperature difference in the closet is far different from the rest of the interior depending on the weather which is why we keep the closet door closed (and the closed door might have some affect). The second fact is that the difference in temperature is probably not as bad as it should be when this is happening (not quite as cold or quite as hot as the outside), so that there must be some insulation at the front.
Since we try to avoid extreme heat and extreme cold, and we don't full-time, and we have no plans to take the front cap apart, I am not going to worry about it. Unfortunately, I can't change my opinion about the RV industry because quality is all over the map but I am happy with my Monty after 6 years. Thanks for the advice, Dennis.
